I rarely write reviews, but I just had to say something! From the first phone call with Shaunna, the motel manager, to the convenience and cleanliness of this place, every moment was perfect. We called from the road and Shaunna was kind, helpful, and reassuring. We arrived after hours and found our cute little breakfast gift bag with oranges and fresh baked pastries, two chocolate Hersey's Kisses on the nightstand, and a rubber duckie on the edge of the bathtub displayed in our room. For a motel that opened 66 years ago (on route 66 - seriously!), it was cleaner than many newer hotels! I was stunned! We were able to pull our truck and trailer right up to the door of our room and unload it late at night. You have no idea how much my husband appreciated that convenience! And then the little table and chairs right outside our door was great for the first cup of coffee. We very much appreciated the quaint, personal touches. This was a perfect stop and we would be thrilled to stay again. Thank you, Shaunna. And although we didn't get to meet Mike and Debbie Pogue, thank you to you as well, for keeping the charm and integrity of the motel, as it was intended.

I've stayed at several of the old Route 66 motels, and I've got to say that the Sunset Motel in Moriarty, New Mexico is my new favorite! The rooms are good sized, and some have the original blond oak furniture. The motel is an "easy on, easy off" of Interstate 40. I had a great conversation with one of the owners, and learned a lot about the property, and a little bit about the family that has owned and operated it since it opened in 1959. Well worth the time to talk with her. And for those who have electric vehicles, they have four EV charging stations. The only downside is the rather wimpy shower - not unusual in the vintage properties. All-in-all, would highly recommend the Sunset Motel.
