Almost no seating in the lobby or outside of the restaurant area to enjoy spending time with big families (14 of us couldn’t spend any time all together). Sat at restaurant for 30 min no service. Kiddos were upset the pool closed 4 hours earlier than advertised. Rooms are out of date, different colored lighbulbs and cracked blinds, nonworking outlets etc. The beach needs a good cleaning and needs more than 6 chairs and 2 umbrellas. It really could be a lovely place but the lack of proper maintenance and staffing is gonna put this place out of business. Seems that they are trying to be too way many things, instead of having a few really good quality things to do. Staff that was there was friendly and kind and I’m sure none of this is their fault, they can’t do everything though, one guy said he was in charge of life guarding and front desk and pool that day. Management and owners need a wake up call.

This resort has potential. But lack of staff and too spread out. You need your own transportation to get to things if staying in cabins and rv camp. Amenities are 1/2 mile to 1 mile apart. For the most part the grounds are kept up well. Except for the hundreds of barn swallows that have taken over the lodge. Both with flying around and dive bombing you and the feces all over the building and side walks/door entrances. The water park is small and the floors covered in sand grit from people coming in from the beach/lake to use either the showers or pool. You pay $25 resort fee but that includes only access to the water park and use of paddles boards at the beach, other rides train, horse/buggy are extra and they have limited times that vary each day. The staff that is there is exceptional! The food at the restaurant was good. For the rv campgrounds you are parking on cement, but no shade and no extra facilities (showers, toilets, playground). Just a glorified parking area mostly for boaters. The golf course was always busy, not sure if they are people staying there or driving in to use. Consider what you are paying for and what amenities you want before staying here.

My family and I were here on a three day stay for a family reunion. We have young kids so the waterpark was going to be a big deal to them. It closed each day we were there for different reasons (according to the employees they were short staffed, staff member got sick, and then a kid pooped in the water). The rooms were small and I could literally feel the springs from the mattress when I attempted to sleep. There was rust all in the bathtub where I had to bath my kids and the bathroom was tiny. While trying to visit with family members outside on the back porch, the staff thought it’d be a good time to power wash so our large group couldn’t find another space to all gather. The next night they had a special private event so we couldn’t have access to porch or bar that evening either. We were at the mercy of the one restaurant they have on site because nothing is within a reasonable distance from this vacation trap. I was told this place was under new management, but it doesn’t look like they are investing any money into making this a desirable destination for families. Would not stay here, sad I had to spend so much money to stay here, and I would not recommend anyone coming here if they have a choice.

We had family in a total of 3 rooms and 1 campsite. 7 Kids ages from 6 months to 11 years old. The rooms were decent sized but the bathrooms were small for a hotel. Door into the room and the bathroom door did not close or open quietly and both needed to be pushed open and shut with force. We never actually got the bathroom door to shut completely. Woke my toddler up in the middle of the night if someone would enter or exit the room. It definitely was not the cleanest hotel room I had been in. Paint chipped in multiple spots of the bathtub and bathroom door. The restaurant had very slow service. I don’t think it was due to the staff not doing their job but more so understaffed. The food was not good. I had fish and chips and the fish was horrible. The pizza was less than decent. We mostly ate the snacks we brought or cooked at the camp site one of our family members was staying at. The indoor water park was fun and served its purpose. The kids really enjoyed it. The beach was fun with stuff to do. I wish they had a foot washing station to rinse the sand off at and more beach chairs available. The park was awesome. The kids had fun playing there. There is a water fountain and a bathroom near the park. Would be convenient if sidewalk was added between campground and park. Campgrounds were spacious and very nice. Lots of room in between campsites with grassy area for kids and dogs to run. When the campsite was rented, we were told it was the last site and to get it booked if we were set on that date. There were 10 or less campsites here and many open so obviously it was a lie to get the site booked. The staff was all very nice. No complaints about the staff at all. Room service never came so we never got more towels. They seemed understaffed in every area. It was not crowded at all. We may go back as my kids enjoyed the pool but it is very very pricey for having no breakfast included and limited water park hours. If it was not as expensive or included breakfast, we would be way more likely to go as it is less than 2 hours from where we live. A couple people we know went right before and during the pandemic and they said updates such as playground and more cabins and were added. But the interior rooms need updates as well as breakfast included in stay. I’m also confused but the daily restart fee of $25 on top of the already high prices rooms.

If you are staying here for the advertised amenities don’t come during the week. The only experiences available are kayaks and the indoor water park that is open from 4-8pm. They still charge you the $25 resort fee a night despite having anything to do. The train and horse rides are not available, the bikes are broken and have flat tires. The Bourbon restaurant is not open. Food and services is poor. Their website states you get $100 in Xcursion bucks to use when you book Sunday-Wednesday …but you can’t use these bucks on anything but the Xcursions…that are not available during your stay. I discussed these concerns and that they should list their on their website what they don’t have during the week to the manager and she did not appear to care. It might be a great place to visit on the weekends when they have the amenities available.

HCR has the potential to be great. The resort itself and the lake setting is beautiful. There is plenty of free parking and nice staff members. Several of my family members stayed here in May 2023. The rooms were nice, but overpriced! The cabins are ridiculously priced at nearly $500 per night or more. Last weekend, my family gathered for another reunion. We checked into staying at HCR again, but the room and cabin rates were just too high. Then in addition, you have a $25 per day resort fee added. Therefore, we stayed in Centerville at The Continental Hotel instead. You don't get a lake view room here, but it's just a 10–15 minute drive back to the state park and marina area. We did, however, come to HCR one day for lunch and to use the indoor waterpark. As we entered the grounds and drove by the cabins, we noticed that only one cabin had a guest vehicle parked in front of it. The others looked unoccupied, which did not surprise us based on the high rates. Logan greeted us with warmly and with fun energy at the front door. There were 3 attendants standing behind the front desk.. No need for 3 attendants, the place was not busy. The restaurant was empty except for one other table occupied. There was just 3 of us dining in house, but we also placed food orders to go to take to the waterpark area. The food was good, but the service was unacceptably slow. We learned that our server had only been on the job one week. This was the case last year as well. In May 2023, our group had lunch in the restaurant and service was terribly slow and we learned then that our server was new to the job as well. Two years in a row, we were told they were working on better staff service. I'm not sure if the delay is the server's fault, or the kitchen staff? The indoor waterpark experience was fun. The four children in our group loved it. Lifeguards were attentive. We would love to stay at HCR in the future, but until they publish more reasonable rates and improve their dining services, we will not be staying there.

I wanted a stress free weekend for my family! I rented a large cabin , so we would all be under 1 roof! There was a maintance issue i was told. But then manager slipped and said it was double booked! I dont know what the truth was. We were given 2 cabins close together. We made do. But it defeated the purpose of being their. We were told at 2 :30 our cabins were 15 minutes from being completed. We knew check in was 4:00. We continued to play at water park. 4 :15 i went to get the cabins keys. Was told by the desk clerk and housekeeping they were not clean yet. Then house keeping said they were. I didnt find out till the next morning. Garbage was found between the bottom bunk and wall. Obviously sheets hadnt been changed or checked! I found someones medicine cup in my room on the floor by bed. Again must not have been cleaned!!! Waterpark was fun.... but had its own issues! Womens bathroom stalls had no toilet paper in any of them. Saturday they were very busy. Bathrooms should have been checked! We went back to pool on Sunday.... they were short on lifegaurds. I get it! Ive also taken 75 plus kids to a swimming pool with the daycare i worked at. I know how easy it is for a small child or anyone to slip and fall in a pool! Two male lifegards were more interested in their conversation then watching the lazy river and 3 ft area. I dont know if right now i would suggest Honey Creek Resort. Been getting the run around with manager! But they sure were in a hurry to charge my card!

Amazing family trip! The room was clean and nicely appointed with a gorgeous view of the lake. Comfortable beds. The rooms have mini fridges, microwaves, and Keurigs. The indoor water park is open now from 11am-7pm each day. The indoor water park is perfect for younger children. None of the water is over 3' and you can see most of the park from a lounge chair or the hot tub. There were 4 lifeguards on duty, it felt very safe. Water park access is freely included with your resort wristband during your stay. The beach was great for older kids. Lots of boats and floats to borrow for free until 7pm, and a swimming area. There is signage about monitoring for blue algae blooms, but the last issue with that was in 2019. Current (6/2023) samples show no issues. Super friendly staff helping with the boats. The resort is dog friendly with a $25/night pet fee that covers up to two dogs. Dogs must be crated if you leave the room without them. The ground floor rooms with patios would be nice for outdoor access to take dogs out. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner now until 11pm. It's a little expensive ($13-$15 grill food), but the pizza was reasonable and tasty. There are daily carriage rides included with the activity wristband, as are free bike rentals. There's a communal fire pit outside and you can buy bundles of firewood for $8 if you want to have a fire. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We will definitely have to go back.
