McKean Township: hotel a 2 stelle

My family of 3 stayed here for 4 nights while visiting friends over the July 4th holiday. Our fairly late check-in was handled quickly, with no issues. The ”curb appeal” of this hotel is a bit...shall we say...sketchy. That's NOT to say it is unsafe or dangerous. It is just obviously an older hotel that has seen better days, and it could probably stand a substantial renovation. Plus, the location and price point seems to attract a somewhat ”rednecky” clientele (for lack of a better description). The night of our arrival, there were some folks chilling and tailgating in the parking lot. Not being rude or loud or anything -- just something you would not see at a more suburban or downtown type of hotel. The room itself was more than adequate for our stay. It was clean, and large enough for our multiple bags of luggage with room left over to get around. We also appreciated the ample outlets and USB ports for plugging in our electronic devices. We did not get to sample the outdoor pool. In fact, I would not have even known this place had a pool, had my wife not noticed the sign stating ”the pool is behind the hedges.” The pillows on the beds were too small for my liking. The true star of this hotel is the breakfast at the attached restaurant. We figure the included ”hot breakfast” would be the typical breakfast bar, with scrambled eggs, maybe some sausage, pastries and a self-serve waffle machine. BOY, were we wrong! It was full table service, with a menu of about 12-14 different options. They had the usual eggs and choice of meat combos, but also had combos that included pancakes, french toast, biscuits & gravy, and breakfast sandwiches. The food is then cooked to order, and delivered quickly to your table. There was also a full compliment of juice, coffee, and soft drinks, as well as fresh fruit (including fresh pineapple and melon). The wait staff were great -- attentive and vert friendly. Honestly, if a hotel's breakfast is the only important thing to you, this is a 5 star place. If a hotel breakfast is not important to you at all, then you can probably take a star away from this rating. If we need to book a room again in northwest Erie County, then we would not hesitate staying here again.
