Heliconia Amazon River Lodge

Great place with the nicest people waiting for you to make you live a great jungle experience! Delicious food, comfy rooms, very experienced and kind guides and exciting activities to enjoy your days in Iquitos. I am definitely going back!

Enjoyed our 2 nights 3 days stay at Heliconia Amazon River Lodge. Super staff, excellent food, great places to chill out. The guide assigned to our group by Heliconia for the 3 days we were there, Mr Manuel, was most knowledgeable, congenial and very attentive to all our needs.

If you are looking for the first true Amazonas experience, it's the place to stay. If you want to discover true rainforest and meet real Amazonas village people, you should find a place far from Iquitos. We had excellent guides (Lucio and Elvis), and they compensated for a lot of what was missing from the first-hand experience.

Awesome place to stay at if you’re going to Iquitos. Everything was planned out. Food was great. Staff was friendly. The rooms were nicely cleaned. The tour guy was amazing and very friendly. Will definitely recommend anybody that is thinking about coming to go to Heliconia

We spent 2 nights /3 days at Heliconia Lodge. The lodge itself was beautiful with an abundance of fauna and flora surrounding the area. The rooms were great too with decent meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The best part however was having Nixon as our guide, not only did he make us feel incredibly welcome and at home but was also very well informed about all areas of Amazon life, there wasn't anything he didn't know. We would 100 % return here in the future and wouldn't want to stay anywhere else.

I was sick when I arrived (the illness being the cousin of Montezuma’s Revenge - Atahualpa’s Revenge) and the resort staff kindly checked on me, offered to take me to the local clinic (20 minutes away by boat), informed me about alternative jungle medicine, and gave me the universal restorative: chicken soup, which cured me and was delicious. Truthfully, I took Imodium, Zithromax and electrolyte replacement prior to the chicken soup. I recovered in 1 day. I almost didn’t come to Heliconia because of the diarrhea and fear that I wouldn’t be close to a baño or large tree, but I am so glad I made it there. I loved it. We were there in early November and it is the end of the dry season, the river is low, and there weren’t many mosquitos. You could hike in the rainforest on foot. In the rainy season the jungle is more accessible by boat. The food was local and delicious. We saw lots of birds and there are oropendola nesting at the resort (woven hanging basket type nests.) The resort had a turtle sand box and we were lucky that the rescued turtle eggs were hatching while we were there. They keep the turtles a month and then release them into the river. We saw monkeys, sloths, lemur, poison dart frogs, bats, and spiders. There is a lovely swimming pool in the center of the compound. The staff members were gracious and kind, and the guides were knowledgeable. Laid back kind of place for the adventurous. All the nature tours and cultural experiences were included. Antony our guide was awesome. He gave us a side tour of the local medical clinic and we may return as medical volunteers.
