I was really looking forward to the stay, and whilst the lodge was as expected, I was really disappointed (but not surprised after reading other reviews) that there was no hammock. It's a simple thing, but in the heat, it would have been lovely to have laid in one and chilled whilst listening to nature. I didn't even have a chair on my "balcony" to sit on and had to ask several times before I got one. It's basically a bed and bathroom, and as I didn't want to remove the mosquito net, I wasn't prepared to sit on the bed, so a chair outside made sense. As for the food.. small portions, which I didn't expect after reading the reviews. It was local bread and marmalade for breakfast, then one fried egg. True, it was possibly the most tastiest egg I've ever eaten, but hardly substantial. Other meals (starters) were all banana based, baked banana stuffed with veg, again but stuffed with fish, etc., followed sometimes by plantain. I haven't been able to eat a banana since, though the meals were well prepared and nicely presented. The next issue, and it could quite possibly be the travel company's fault, was that we were given an itinerary that included exciting activities like pink dolphin spotting, early morning bird watching, night walks etc., We did nothing from the itinerary, just travelled up and down the same patch of river and strolled around the grounds one evening to see tarantulas. I do not feel like I had a proper "Amazon experience", although I did enjoy the stay, and the owner was pleasant enough. I would recommend this lodge, but not for anyone who wants the total "rain forest / nature " experience. I barely saw one animal, apart from those in a local sanctuary.

The trip into the Amazon jungle at AMAK Iquitos is hard to forget. Everything was well coordinated, from the airport until back to the same Iquitos airport. Amak staff was very friendly and we didn’t miss anything during the 3 days/2 nights spent in the jungle. The place is beautiful. There are planned activities for each day, so you do not have the time to feel bored. Food? – Excellent. Even was fixed menu from the resort' side, was one of the best foods in Peru. We had our journey in August and there were no problems or close to nothing regarding mosquitos. Same for heat, it is acceptable for this time of the year. It will remain one of the best experiences for us, one of our top destinations. It is a must to do it at least once in your lifetime.

Amak in Iquitos is an amazing property. Mel had very interesting tours with the guide Carlos. Carlos is very competent in everything around him. I especially liked the fishing trip and the visit to the jungle. Carlos made the fish we caught for dinner:) We learned a lot of interesting things about nature and local communities. All meals (3x a day) were the top class of the restaurant and I'm not exaggerating:) Perfect chef. The staff is very kind and the environment is clean and pleasant. Our cabin was clean and cute. If you have a question about which accommodation to visit there, we have a definite answer - Amak Iquitos!

We loved our experience at AMAK Iquitos. I was impressed of how well coordinated everything was. Everyone from the staff was very friendly and always looking to make sure all our needs were taken care of. The place was beautiful. We travel with our 6 year old daughter who is a really picky eater but we were impressed how she adapted and did not complaint about the food. I personally liked all the food they served and the presentation was great. Alfredo who is the manager at the lodge was amazing too. We loved to visit the Yagua tribe, we donated some of our clothes to them and bought their products and gave them some snacks since they are very poor. There were very few mosquitos and I would say we conquered the jungle with zero mosquito bites (but we were also wearing pants and long sleeves) It was a great experience for our family, definitely will never forget.

Intro: stayed there for 3 nights. Arriving in Iquitos airport we were picked up by bus and dropped of at Iquitos hotel. Not much to do in Iquitos, not a pretty city as far as I. could see. Next day bus transfer to docks on Amazon river with stop at animal sanctuary (opposite direction of river, educational but also in hopes to get some funds for a facility desperately in need of it like so many others, but I can only applaud the efforts and commitment by the staff towards the animals in their care!!!) trip to lodge: Great impressive boat ride on the Amazon (ca 1hr) to the lodge. Depending on water level of the river (by season) more or less walking to the lodge (50yrds to 400yrds). Cabins: The cabins are very basic, have a bed with its own mosquito net over and some screen around the units openings to keep most wildlife outside the cabin. No more hammocks available as some of the pics would indicate. There is a bathroom with shower and toilet, but no hot water, no potable water, limited light (LED from batter). Cabin has NO AC power. Charging phones and laptops possible in main lodge during morning, noon and evening hours when guests are back at the resort for meal breaks and generator is running to provide AC power. Activities that make the time fly by: lots of activities, one excursion in the morning and one in the afternoon to explore the surrounding nature, wildlife and culture of the local communities. Pests and basic prevention: mosquitos not to much of a problem during my stay except for the one night trip where everyone's flashlights/cameras attracted them in masses. Nevertheless, DEET and Picaridin based repellents are a must. Some cortisone and antiitch cream worth considering Basic extras to bring: Bring a decent flashlight!! Long and short sleeved tops, shoes that can get wet (for muddy conditions the lodge provides rubber boots), some raingear (rainy season until mid June), head cover and sunscreen. Malaria pills recommended, as well as Hep and Yellow fever vaccination (though not necessary but for peace of mind). Bring a water container (500 to 1000ml) for drinking and oral hygiene. The main lodge served as reception area, hangout area before and after trips and meals, eating area, and had some AC outlets for charging your small electronic devices. In the back is the managers desk and behind that the kitchen, darn never stuck my head into the kitchen. While there was a small library with books to read in that common area, it was not the most comfortable place to spend many hours, but is was fine for the short breaks we had. Now if it was not for the excursions and for some reason one had to hang around the area for many hours it was not that comfortable, neither we the cabins that I only used for sleeping and bathroom tasks. The cabins other than the bed just had no facility to crash. On that note, bring plastic bags to store your cloth as at least during the rainy season up into its tail-end the high humid will get cloth

Great place - very remote, in the middle of the jungle. Houses are simple but with all the things necessary for this kind of jungle experience. Lack of wifi and any network coverage turned out to be a plus - we disconnected completely and relaxed completely after our 2,5 weeks' intense Peru trip. Slept two nights as a baby with the sounds of rain (1st night) and jungle (2nd night). Staff is very welcoming and helpful. Wonderful experience overall

Such a great stay with Amak! The staff were all so friendly and helpful making our stay very special. We loved our guide Carlos and he was so passionate about the jungle. The food was delicious and it was great to try some local food. The beds and cabin were comfy with everything you can need. But bring loose long trousers as the mosquitoes are bad !
