Tru by Hilton Kansas City Airport

I was really looking forward to staying at this property. I stayed numerous times at its sister property, Hilton Garden Inn, next door. I thought I would give it a try since it was recently opened. What I enjoyed: the lobby has fresh colors, many places to lounge, nice fitness center, pool table in lobby, and the ice machine/water bottle refill station that is centrally located. The drawbacks: the walls weren’t as soundproof as the Hilton Garden next door, there’s no pool, and it sits at the end of the crosswind runway which is active between 9pm until about 7am. It’s extremely loud and challenging to sleep through. It may be different on a lower floor. Would I stay again? Absolutely, but only with earplugs and a sound machine. There were so many enjoyable things to not stay there again.

The positive about this hotel is convenience to the airport, which includes a shuttle, and newer furnishings. Otherwise, it is understaffed with people who are not knowledgeable or care about customer service. I booked three rooms for two nights to accommodate my family, and in one of the rooms the TV did not work the entire time. We reported it twice, and we finally gave up. On one evening there were at least 30 kids (baseball team), who basically took over the games in the lobby as if they were on a playground, while the parents sat in a corner and watched. The hotel staff sat in the lobby and did nothing to bring order to the chaos. It was crazy.

Outstanding hotel for that short stay before or after a flight. They have great breakfast options. The common area has televisions, pool table, games, free WiFi, packaged food and drinks for purchase and coffee and tea always available for free. The gym is good but small. The room was on the smaller size but comfortable. As I indicated it is a good short stay hotel. The room had a mini fridge but not a microwave. There is one available to use in the common area. They have a free shuttle to the airport.
