Matsumoto Jujo

I'm already dreaming of my next trip back!! I loved everything about my stay at Matsumoto Jujo's Honbako hotel, the beds were the best I've ever laid down on in a long time, and having an open-air hotspring bath in the balcony is just the cherry on top. But here are my top 3 things I enjoyed during my stay at Matsumoto Jujo's compound: - the Philosophy & Sweets cafe was such a cozy spot, and I'm still dreaming about the pumpkin baked cheese cake I had paired with milk amazake! I can imagine myself coming back to visit for coffee and desserts even if I'm not staying at Matsumoto Jujo. - the food at Dining 367!! Every dish served was not only delicious but came with a story shared by the friendly and capable service crew. Also most ingredients incorporated in the dishes come from the Shinshu area, aka Nagano. The non-alcoholic drink pairings were the highlight for me, which were all so creatively made! - the bathhouse-turned-bookstore/library called Honbako. If you are a book lover this is the place to be...I loved how the shower taps and sinks are still left as they were (there's also a kids' section that looks like a maze and has a ballpit!!) This place is also very aesthetically pleasing and I can't take enough photos of the area. Definitely a must-stay if you are visiting Matsumoto. Asama Onsen is a hidden gem just waiting to be discovered, and I have Matsumoto Jujo to thank!!

Oyaki and Coffee it's the name of the beautiful building that me and my friend already amazed by the wonderful architect design at the first place. I did not expect that this own building using as Matsumoto Jujo Hotel Reception, which made me more amazed and love at the first sight with this place! In here we do check in, and the staff served welcome drink and snack. I choose ice hojicha and also vegetable oyaki as the welcome starter. I do love the hojicha because smells so good and light and the oyaki is the best oyaki I ever had so wonderful. The hotel staff also very kind and friendly and fluent speaking in English which made me life easier to understand everything and communicate well each other. The staff also given us several brochures and explain it one by one in details about the hotel and the facilities that they have. I do love this building so much that's why I took a lot of picture for those who likes design interior this cafe it's a must to visit! We just leave our luggage there and while waiting for the check in time we can stay there while enjoying the cafe atmosphere or we can just simply moving around the hotel area because it's so pretty too. Don't worry about your luggage they will help you and bring it to the hotel room straight away and they do have shuttle to drop you to the hotel from the reception. What a wonderful cafe indeed and I also attached after checked out I came back here just to buy their Oyaki and Hojicha to bring back home - yes I do love and recommend this place so much and worth the money!!

From booking until check out, their service was impeccable. The staff were attentive to our dietary restrictions and thoughtfully adjusted our meals. Check-in took place at Oyaki and Coffee, just a few minutes away from the property, where we were warmly welcomed with drinks and snacks. Some staff members spoke English, which made things convenient for us. We spent the afternoon exploring the town, visiting temples and quaint shops, before finally checking in. Matsumoto Honbako’s exterior and interior design was simply stunning. Our twin room on the top floor was spacious and comfortable, fully stocked with snacks, drinks, and other thoughtful amenities. The outdoor onsen was a highlight—we enjoyed it several times during our one-night stay and found it incredibly relaxing. Dinner was superb: a well-balanced meal with local and fresh ingredients. We tried both their alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink pairings, which were excellent and definitely worth experiencing! One staff member went above and beyond, kindly providing a pillow to ensure my comfort. Later, we enjoyed some time in the library, surprised by its cozy reading nooks and a collection of Japanese and English books. The ambiance of both the dining area and library was exceptional; the moody lighting, calming music, and overall vibe created a wonderfully relaxing atmosphere. Our stay at Matsumoto Jujo left us feeling completely recharged, and we’re already looking forward to our next visit!

Matsumoto Jujo is just as stunning as it looks in magazines and online. The design is subtle yet grand (not in your face!!) creating a sense of peace and inspiration. The compound feels like a town within a hotel—checking in at oyaki & coffee, walking to Matsumoto Honbako to check the library, then heading to Hotel Koyanagi for souvenirs. It’s an experience that makes you want to stay and explore it all! Stayed at Matsumoto Honbako’s Designer’s Twin. Gorgeous room with an outdoor bath, and a bed, study, and kitchen overlooking the town. Loved the fusion of brutalist design and Japanese elements. Dinner was incredible—western-style dishes using fresh local ingredients, even koi fish! Breakfast had an assorted salad platter that’s a rollercoaster of taste and textures, both healthy and flavorful, plus bread from Koyanagi’s bakery (and you can take home any leftovers!). The service is personal and top-notch, making the stay extra special. The location offers a relaxing, slow-paced vibe—a perfect escape from Tokyo. Don’t miss the library; it’s super photogenic and inspiring. I super recommend to everyone into design and who just wants to escape their busy lives in Tokyo/other cities!!!

Prachtig hotel, mooie kamer met uitzicht, balkon met een warmwaterbron, vriendelijk personeel en een zeer goed restaurant. Ontbijt en diner waren uitzonderlijk goed. Aandacht voor details zoals handgeschreven kaartjes. Een aanrader!

子供がいるので、小柳に宿泊しました 食事会場には子供向け演出があったりで、子供は楽しめると思いますが、食事が美味しくない 例えるなら、ファミリー向けのホテルの宴会場でのブッフェというレベルの食事でした ここの食事は、ブッフェではないですが・・・ 本箱の方はいいみたいですが、小柳での宿泊は食事で全てが台無しと言っても過言ではないです 子供向けの食事には、根菜と葉物野菜のサラダがありましたが、生の根菜は子供は食べないですよ 温泉は、アルカリ性単純温泉なので普通ですね
