I spent a lovely couple of nights at Fort Road Hotel while Storm Darragh was rampaging round the country - but despite that I felt warm and snuggly and calm. Room 3 on the first floor had a nice view of the back of the Turner Contemporary Gallery and the sea to either side. It's a beautifully designed hotel - lots of natural wood makes it feel warm, I love the colour palette generally and I really appreciated the original artworks all over the hotel. Much nicer than bland corporate prints. The bedroom had everything you need: air conditioning!, a not too thick duvet, a window that opened, USB chargers beside the bed, a nice chair and nice view. I love the Haeckels products and the big fluffy towels. Felt amazingly peaceful in the hotel. I loved the cookies and fresh milk supplied and good quality teas and coffees. Practically - the hotel is really close to all the action - the Turner, the old town, the harbour arm, the beach - everything you need. The staff were lovely and welcoming and seemed to enjoy working there. The breakfast was tasty (and is now included which I think it wasn't before?) - and continental - and for only £3 more you could upgrade to a full english or eggs. The home made jam was delicious - just the right balance of tart and sweet! The roaring fire in the restaurant was toasty. The only thing I'd say was the food in the restaurant was a big disappointment. I arrived later on the Thursday so chose to eat in the restaurant. It has a lovely lovely ambience and the staff were great but the food was really dull. The dishes were either under seasoned or had too much chilli, and the pudding I had (a chocolate tart) was very boring - like it had been bought in M&S food hall with clammy pastry and dull filling. I've definitely had much better food elsewhere. However - you don't have to eat there - there are many other fantastic restaurants in Margate so don't let this put you off. If the restaurant review seems a bit harsh, don't let it put you off! I absolutely would stay at Fort Road again - and in fact am looking forward to doing so in better weather!
