Doghouse Margate

My husband has never raved about bed linens before! Gorgeous well appointed spacious rooms, wonderful hosts and excellent breakfast choices. We only stayed two nights but long to return. Well located in Cliftonville, short walk to shops, restaurants and bars, close to the water and a bus route. Steep narrow stairs to bedrooms

This was quite simply the best B&B I’ve ever stayed in with so many thoughtful touches. Set in a beautifully restored Victorian house in a quiet residential street in the Cliftonville area, it’s just steps away from a large selection of small shops and restaurants and a direct bus link into Margate centre. (Sete - a small French restaurant 3 minutes away was wonderful for dinner and the Grain Grocer - a cafe in an organic shop nearby, was great for lunch). We parked for free right outside and were warmly greeted on arrival. Our room was beautifully furnished with a very comfortable bed, small table for breakfast and a luxurious bathroom. Small touches like slippers, dressing gowns, toiletries, luxurious towels, an umbrella, a charger, lots of hangers, a coffee machine and a selection of drinks/snacks in an honesty bar in the hallway made our stay so comfortable and relaxing. There is a blackboard in the hallway with lots of recommendations for walks, restaurants and things to do which was very appreciated. We were able to order our breakfast online a few days before our stay which was very easy. I had the vegetarian full English (veggie sausage, eggs, mushroom, beans, halloumi cheese and toast) and my mother had pancakes and fruit. Both were absolutely delicious and generously sized. A selection of juices, teas and coffees completed the meal. Our hosts, Mel and Fe were so welcoming striking the perfect balance of being available to answer any questions without being overbearing. The Doghouse is quite simply the model of a B&B done right. If you are in the Margate area you this is the place you want to stay. Thank you for making our visit so enjoyable.

A very warm welcome from Mel, who provided excellent service for our two night stay. Beautifully restored Victorian Villa and spotlessly clean.They have renovated to a very high standard and it is very homely indeed. Well appointed and comfortable room with all the amenities for a perfect stay. Even a fan in the room for the warm weather! Breakfast was served in the room and from a comprehensive menu. The full English was a feast for a king! Preordering breakfast on the site was tricky until we knew the name of the room we were staying in, but then straightforward. Would highly recommend this for a short stay. We loved this guesthouse and we were made to feel like special guests. Thank you Mel and Fe!! The Loop bus runs from the top of the road into town, Ramsgate, Broadstairs and Westwood across retail park (everything!!) and a Day Rider ticket was about £5.50, if you like exploring.

Everything there is clean and smells so good. I enjoyed spending the time there and just enjoy the silence. The property is a walking distance from the beach and some restaurants and pubs. The staff was friendly and breakfast served was also very good.

A gorgeous and relaxing stay was had at the Doghouse. The rooms were beautiful, the bed was comfy, the whole house was super clean and the hosts (Fe and Mel) were the loveliest people in the business. Now…we have to talk about the breakfast. What you will experience here is one the best breakfasts out there. Day one we had the pancakes, day two we had the full English. Five stars on both days. We contemplated staying an extra few days to try everything on the menu!!! Fe and Mel…you have made us want to return to Margate. Thank you so much.

We stayed at the Doghouse for an anniversary weekend and I guess the only thing I missed was a sea view each morning. However I would prefer a perfect stay over that anytime. There was nothing we went without - starting with free parking across the road, gorgeous spacious comfortable room and incredible breakfast. The owners have thought of everything. If I have missed anything we obviously didn't need it! As for Margate - our first visit and we really liked it. Yes there are some very run down parts of town but also some lovely parts too. It was an easy walk (about 20 mins) direct to and from the Doghouse to the old town and sea front or a slightly longer walk along the sea front from Walpole Bay. We ate at Dory's and Sargasso - really great food. Some great brews at The Two Halves and delish cocktails at Little Swift. All in all a great weekend.
