Kicheche Mara Camp

We had the best time at Mara North! Jimmy, our guide, loves photography and pulled our land cruiser up to the perfectly framed shots of the sunrise or hot air balloons or giraffes. He is incredibly knowledgeable. We had breakfast with hippos and saw a serval cat with kittens, a nursing lion, and a leopard, among many other highlights. McKenna and Caroline were wonderful (get a massage in the spa tent!). Our tent was the furthest out and everyone joked we were in Tanzania. But when we opened our tent on the second morning, we had elephants right by our deck, munching away! The roads here were extremely bumpy (when we were on roads, just an FYI). The food was great and I have a lot of food allergies so you have to be direct about portion sizes and needs. My waiter, Morris, was the best of all three camps, because he reviewed the menu with me beforehand and made sure I could eat all my substitutions (something the other camps didn't do despite best efforts). I always felt reassured eating what Morris put in front of me. This is the main Kicheche camp and not fenced, so there are more animal encouters and it's a bit fancier than some of the others and bigger. Laundry comes back the same day for no extra charge. And socks do not count as smalls, ladies! Overall, it was a terrific experience!

Kicheche is a luxurious tented camp. From the time we arrived, the treatment was like a five star hotel. The appointments in the tents and how the employees treat you reflects the highest attention to detail. Anna, the manager, is exceptional. George, our driver, was amazing and made our experience memorable (including fly camp). The food was 10/10. Highly recommend doing the fly camp experience. We are strongly considering returning. Be prepared to see lots of animals, both on game drives, and outside your tent. Fantastic property and experience.

This was the ultimate family safari! We spent four days/ nights here and have only outstanding memories. The staff are incredibly kind, in a truly authentic way. They felt like family when we left. The service levels, food quality and game drives were off the charts.

I cannot saw enough good things about Kicheche. It was the highlight of our trip to Africa. Amazing in every way. The tents are great. The food is awesome. The guides are incredible. They seem to have thought of every possible thing for an enjoyable, fun safari experience. I will be back!

Absolute gem of a location!!! Beautiful setting and well furnished tents. Loved our entire stay and albeit wet conditions whilst there, the team did everything to make us feel comfortable and enjoyed our safari. Many thanks to Andrew & Makena, our guide Peter and the team as a whole. Bookings by Simon & Winnie (Nairobi office) went smoothly too. We shall definitely return to Kicheche family!

This was our first trip to Kicheche Mara Camp, though we’ve been to other Kicheche camps previously. It’s a lovely place to stay and explore the fantastic wildlife of the Mara North Conservancy. Mara Camp is set in a bend in the river, which gives great views and lovely bird life (beautiful kingfishers including some less common ones). Humphrey the hippo grazed at night outside our room (which was called Topi), which was a soothing sound of munching grass in the night - he was gone by the time our morning coffee / hot chocolate arrived. And we had antelope hiding in the bush behind our tent for the whole time we were there - a mother and baby. The staff were welcoming and friendly - particular thanks to Jonathan who escorted us to and from our tent after dark, and to George our guide.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the lovely Kicheche Mara Camp, and have only wonderful things to say about our knowledgable guide George, the welcoming staff, lovely accommodations, and delicious food! We appreciated the wakeup coffee and cookies, picnic breakfasts, "sundowners," and campfires.

An unforgettable experience ! We stayed three nights in this exceptional camp! This camp is the perfect balance between luxurious comfort in a tent, service worthy of a Palace, very refined cuisine and calm, calm, smiling and efficient service. Every day, every breakfast, every lunch, aperitif, dinner is always different, varied, simple and worthy of a starred restaurant. Everything is soft and efficient. Our guide Peter, the must-have guide, was perfect! Everything is thought out, considered, weighed, adapted, according to our desires and the animals and the weather. The smile is present on each person. The kindness, availability and punctuality of the team is touching. Our welcome by our camp leader (a woman) was extraordinary, I wanted to take her in my arms. The location is well chosen, along a wooded river where all the animals can come and the nights are alive with the noise of the animals but in complete safety. It is the perfect place for a total and assured disconnection with all the comfort. A safari camp paradise on Earth.

All in all, Kicheche was a very nice camp. The tents are spaced well apart, and each is very well appointed and spacious. The food was quite good, and the staff was quite warm and helpful. We were with a group of 10, and our guides were George and Paul, both of whom were very good and endured a long day driving us down to the main reserve one day. We did have good sightings in Mara North--lots of lions including a roaring male, a mating pair, and lots of cubs; a cheetah; countless giraffe; 4 elephants right near camp; buffalo outside our tent at night; Humphrey the hippo wandering around within sight of our room; plenty of hyena; stunning sunrises; etc. My one gripe about this camp (and it's a big one) is that they don't offer night drives. Night drives are allowed in Mara North (and it's an important reason why I chose this location for our group), but this Kicheche camp doesn't offer them. This was really disappointing as it was something I had promised to our friends. All it takes is a handheld spotlight or an infrared filter, so it's a bit perplexing.
