Hotel in zona Waulkmill Waterfall, Macclesfield

E'un castello molto storico. La stanza dietro dovrebbe essere costruita in un'altra fase. L'ambiente davanti all'hotel è buono, una grande prateria, un gruppo di bestiame e un piccolo giardino. Posso vedere le stelle di notte. Il cappotto di lavatrice è separato dal freddo. Se non è freddo, se non si fa freddo, l'acqua della lavatrice è troppo piccola, il letto girerà e suona. Ci sono attività o cose nella notte. Sono stati ospiti molto confusi alle 1:00.La sorpresa è che la stanza ha dato una bottiglia di vino rosso. Inoltre, la strada di montagna che segue la navigazione è ancora inquietante.

I stayed with my partner and we booked the golf and spa package. We had a refurbished room which was beautiful and had a really warm welcome by the receptionist on arrival. The golf course is amazing and beautifully well kept. But unfortunately the halfway house wasn’t open so we couldn’t get a drink or coffee during the four hour course (really would have welcomed this as it was a freezing cold day and we weren’t informed that it was closed beforehand). We had a meal in the hotel restaurant but my steak was overcooked and just served with oven chips that were quite dry. My partner’s beef was also dry and the food was generally a bit basic so we didn’t eat there the second night. Breakfast was okay but just a self-serve buffet, similar to a premier inn. The waitresses and bar staff were all lovely. We weren’t asked for feedback about our meal. The maids don’t turn down the room until guests have stayed there for 3 nights. Since we were there for 2 nights we had no-one clean our room or make the beds, which would have been a really nice touch. There’s also no fridge in the room and no room service, which would have been really handy. The hotel operates a “pay as you go” system, so you’re not able to put charges on the room. Whilst this may be due to security, at times it can feel a bit like penny pinching and as though guests aren’t trusted. For example were stopped abruptly whilst leaving the restaurant to check we had paid for drinks that we had already paid for. Bizarrely you even have to pay extra if you want syrup in your coffee at the spa, which feels a bit over the top. The spa is lovely and has beautiful views from the infinity pool. It’s clean and the changing rooms are clean and well attended to. We were woken up by a phone call on the day we were due to check out to say we had an outstanding balance (again, we had already paid this online the night before). The receptionist explained that they are operating a new payment system so the payment hasn’t registered, but still, as parents of young children we don’t get lie ins often so being woken up in this way left a bit of a bad taste in our mouths! We weren’t asked for feedback about our stay as we left or if we enjoyed it, just checked that we had paid. A couple of other reviews have described the hotel as all fur coat and no knickers and I would reluctantly have to agree. The pay as you go rule adds to an atmosphere of penny pinching and the finishing touches just aren’t there yet. I understand that the hotel is undergoing a lot of changes and refurbishment, which may mean that they have to scrimp in other areas, but it’s the finishing touches that make people want to go back. We wouldn’t stay here again, but would come back for the golf and spa.

I will be staying again, everything was positive from the service to cleanliness.

I booked the Merlin Suite for a girly weekend with my best friend, who is 6 months pregnant. The booking process was easy and followed up with a phone call from Ian - he spent time going through the property amenities and recommended places to eat and visit. The access and info email was easy to follow and some great pointers were included. When I arrived - WOW - just wow. The property is so cute and really does live up to its reputation of being magical. The suite was a perfect size for the two of us and had everything we needed for our stay. It really did feel like a home from home. There were some really lovely touches both externally and in the rooms (I won't ruin the magic for others by going into detail here). I would 100% recommend The Wizards Thatch. Thanks so much, Ian, for the amazing stay! I have already had friends asking for details so they can plan a visit!
