Hitrental Old Town Apartments

We stayed this place from 02/09 to 06/09, 2024. The location is great but the facilities and not acceptable. Most importantly ventilation is very poor. Even in the bathrooms no exhaust fans. In hot days it was horribly sweating, and it was a bad experience. In Switzerland standards??

Superb location facing the chapel bridge. It is located about 7 min walk from Lucerne train station via Rathaussteg bridge. I followed the direction provided by Google map, it brought me to the Brandgassli alley to go to the back alley where the HITrental main entrance located (with a room key dispenser machine). The challenge was to go through the uneven Unter der Egg stone-paved street and the staircase at Brandgassli alley with big luggage bags. So, my advice is to use the front entrance located beside the Restaurant Schiff to use the lift and go to floor zero (0) when you are carrying luggage bag and go to the back alley HITrental entrance collect your room key through the key dispenser. My unit was Venus which is located at level 1. The unit was clean. However, I am not aware that the unit is at low level and worse part it is facing the back alley. Firstly, units facing back alley has little privacy when you keep your window blind/curtain opened as the opposite units could see you easily. It is noisy sometimes when people walk past talking loudly at the back alley. Secondly, the restaurant staffs like to smoke at the back alley when they are taking breaks. Cigarette smoke easily fills up your unit if the window is kept opened all the time. It is a very small unit to fit my family of 4. Nevertheless, we still feel like a cozy home. Kitchen is quite complete with cooking utensils, microwave oven, dish washer, electric cooker, exhaust hood, coffee machine and refrigerator. Two power point adaptors were provided. Unfortunately, one of the two electric cooker was faulty. Clothes washer and dryer (2 units each) are located at level 2, complimentary for in-house guest. Overall, it is just OK for 2-night stay here but I would not recommend staying a level 1 units like Venus and Pluto as they are low level units facing the back alley.

We book 2 Apartments for 2 days Apartment on the 1st floor was very very small, was unable to open the luggage also . We had to refund 1 night amount to our guest. Beware before booking this small room. We requested the hotel to look into this, but the hotel/ apartment, bluntly denied .

Location - amazing! Located above a bar on the lakeside, with views over the lake, and town across the other side. We didn’t have a balcony but had large windows with radiators underneath them so happily sat with the windows wide open but still warm, watching the bustle below in the snow. Lovely! Central location a few minutes from the train and bus stations. The entrance to the apartment block is either via doorway at the back of a restaurant, or another at the back in a back alley. When we first got there we used the alley but after that we cut through the restaurant as is on the lakefront. The room we had was very large with two bedrooms, kitchen, and large bathroom. Perfectly fine. It wasn’t quite ready when we got there but we were let in still, whilst they cleaned around us. It was lovely and warm which was great as it was snowing outside. Coffee machine which didn’t use. A nice touch would have been a welcome pack of basic food/drink like some apartments provide, but as we only really used the room as a base whilst exploring it was basic and fine. Loads to do in the area including a trip up mount pilatus, boat trip out around lake Lucerne, Xmas markets, walking, etc. lots of restaurants, bars, shops, and food options. We had the most amazing cheese fondue at the restaurant directly under the apartment. It’s quite open to the elements with good lake views and twinkly lights, pretty but cold in December so they gave us blankets, fake fur coats, and heated cushions which was lush! The area is expensive though, so be aware of this! If I was to return to this area I would stay here again.

The apartment exceeded my expectations in its spaciousness, facilities, ease, and location, It had views of the river and the covered bridge! I got the family room with 2 bedrooms and it was huge with a wrap-around balcony. There were enough beds for 8 (2 bedrooms with double beds in each, then 2 sofabeds -doubles). The kitchen was full-sized, very well-stocked with all plating, utensils, knives, pots, etc. No spices, oils or foods- you bring your own. The bathroom was HUGE and we had our own WASHER/DRYER in the room. No instructions but you can always google, right? I think this was only for this room because there were instructions to go to the second floor for laundry. Keep in mind: The elevator only goes up to the 5th floor and then you have to walk to this penthouse suite. There is no AC; they had a fan in every room so it is not an issue. Unless you are always sweaty It is in the middle of the town and 6-7 minutes walk from the train station. Neg: There are a lot of instructions to clean up after oneself that reminded me of AIRBNB but in the end, all I did was load the dishwasher and throw out the trash. Which was acceptable overall.
