The entry to the hotel was as you would expect at any Taj, a warm welcome from the door staff. On entering the hotel no one was around to greet me, I had to ask another guest where the reception desk was! Walking to the front desk I found the receptionist on their mobile phone, I had to say excuse me before I was attended to. No warm smile or engagement at all just a very robotic check in. I was then presented with some beeds by a person who couldn’t care less if I were there or not…………. The room was very comfortable with good amenities! The rest of the hotel felt big and cold and in need of renovation. And certainly some seating too, in the vast empty vestibule. The pool area and gardens were immaculate! I enjoyed a drink at the bar and then headed to the main dining area in reception where I enjoyed very good service and delicious food. The second evening, i again enjoyed a drink at the bar and the staff recognised me and were very attentive and friendly. I had intended on having a meal in the fine dinning restaurant, but because my experience was good the first evening, I went to the lobby restaurant, big mistake! I ordered the Lucknow lamb biryanis which is normally served with a gravy, a curry was brought out instead, i tried it, but because of the thick sauce, it smothered the biryani. I asked that they just bring the ordinary gravy, I was then brought something that didn’t resemble the delicious gravy i had had the night before, the evening was diving fast, it was like sand slipping through their fingers. It just went from bad to worse. I had bought a bottle of wine to enjoy with my meal but the evening was ruined. The only good thing was I was told by the restaurant manager that there would be no charge for the food! Not the usual Taj experience I have become accustomed to!
