This was our first stop on our BCS road trip. We initially wanted to stay 2 nights but they only had 1 night available. We arrived around 3:30pm. We flew in to SJD, rented a car, bought groceries, got slightly lost but managed to reach the lodge in time to test the beach and enjoy the sunset. We were checked in without any real tour of the hotel or explanation of services available. Later we came to find out we missed a sunrise yoga session. Something we would've loved to join considering we were already up by that time. Who knows what else we missed out on The suite itself was lovely. There is no bathroom door, it's just an opening so there's no real privacy. Not ideal if you're not a couple, which we were thankfully. The bed is very comfortable and if you sleep with the main doors open you can watch the sunrise from bed. The plunge pool in my opinion was useless. It actually attracted flies or bees which made it somewhat uncomfortable to use the deck chairs. The beach was completely abandoned. Actually I'm not even sure we were meant to access it at all. You can walk to the beach from the lodge but there's no real pathway once you cross the street. You need to go under or around a broken fence and walk by a deserted trailer or shack. Once you reach there the beach is beautiful and endless but very rough. My partner went out for a short swim and came back bruised missing one of his diving fins. We barely saw any sign of life on the premises expect for the staff, an influencer with her camera equipment, a family that briefly checked out the premises and a group of American surfers that ate breakfast after their morning surf. Looking back I'm not sure we'd stay there again. But I can see how this place can be magical for some.
