Ivy Bush Royal Hotel by Compass Hospitality

sadly, this is bar far the worst hotel i have ever stayed in. i have been here for a few weeks (work purposes) where do i begin? room outdated leaky pipe- wc 22.7.24- complained and was told it was behind my room, said they couldn't move my room beds- creaky food- if you like tasteless, flavorless and overall pathetic food, then go here! housekeeping- knock your door (this was literally 30.7.24!!) i shouted 'no thanks' and just walk in!! i was barely clothed!! they try and be like 4/5 star, in reality, it is a 1 at best AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!

We paid just under £80 for our room including breakfast for two, which seemed like very good value. The room was comfortable with all the amenities you would expect. There was an excellent selection of hot and cold food for breakfast and a large free car park. The staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome.

Dated rooms, floor smelt like someone had urinated on the carpet, tv controller didn’t work and no one came to fix it despite several calls to reception, there was a shirt left in my wardrobe from a previous guest, mould in the silicone around the bath.

Ivy Bush has pros and cons. Starting with the good, the location and parking are excellent, the staff weee nice, it was clean, breakfast was good and the communal areas are ok. The ways are in very poor condition and the rooms we used were very old and badly in need of refurbishing. They did function though and it was cheap. Probably wouldn’t use it again

Our recent experience at Ivy Bush, was anything but unbelievable. This isn't the first time we have stayed at this hotel however our latest visit was overshadowed by an unwelcoming service and a room not fit for purpose - Room 110. As a family of of 5 (2 adults and 3 children), we always stayed in one of their basement rooms but we were given a room on the first floor with a double bed, another with 2 singles. That meant, I had to sleep on the floor so that the children would get somewhere to sleep. When we asked for extra beddings from the gentleman at the front desk, who was unwelcoming, it was like taking a sweet from a child. On top of this, the said room was very dirty, dead spider on the window, dirty carpets, dust on the table, very dirty extractor in the bathroom, mouldy grout, and the list goes on. My husband was hospitalised while we were on holiday and I booked into the Ivy Bush to be close to the hospital. The staff were helpful, thoughtful and looked after me during a very stressful time. Clean rooms and good food. Thank you. I would recommend staying here.

Well... what an amazing day and evening !! We got married here on the 20th of July in the Croeso room.. it was beautiful.. the whole day ran just perfectly. The food tasted great and the evening bbq was a hit too!!! All our guests said it was a brilliant day ( the best wedding they had been to) and really well organised. Jack was really amazing with us and the day was just perfect. Big shout out to Jack!!! The merlin suite was huge and really lovely, just perfect for us all to get ready in!! Overall an amazing day so thank you to every one at the Ivy bush for an amazing day!

Review of 2 halves… Very dated. The first room we had we rejected, there was no other way to describe it other than filthy! Black mould round the skirting, nothing cleaned, carpet stained & dirty, dirty mouldy plate left on top of unit, cobwebs over lights blah, blah blah. I could go on. Next room was considerably better, but still lacked cleanliness, but not as bad. I get places can be dated, but there is no excuse for it to be dirty. It’s a real shame as the staff were very friendly and lovely. We enjoyed the food as well. Get the cleaning right and it’s a winner.

Checked in half hour before 2pm no issues which was very welcomed after our 4 hour drive. The hotel was local enough for where we wanted to visit family seemed like a good central location. Wasn’t the warmest welcome but just assumed the man behind the desk had along day. We’d never visited the hotel before, there wasn’t a detailed handover as such. Just told breakfast was served 7.30-9. No mention of where bar was, how breakfast worked etc. Got given our key, went to room to find on the way that the corridor to our room had 3 steps. We had a pram so had to lift it up and down corridor. Staff member did offer to help us lift pram down stairs as he was walking passed as he noticed we were trying to hold the door and both carry the pram into the room. First impression was it was a very spacious room much bigger than we were expecting. Very welcomed with our pram and cot. Upon closer inspection the room was very tired and very dirty. Stains on carpet, ripped corner of the divan fabric, mould around windows peeling wallpaper the net curtains stunk of mould. The glass dressing table had stains between the glass and actually table. I tried to clean it off myself but couldn’t. This was because the glass was fixed onto the table, so the stains had just been left. The bathroom was functional but also very tired looking, grout in places had been touched up so didn’t match existing so made it look shabby. I appreciate it’s an old building mould and things can happen but we weren’t happy with having baby in room so went to ask if we could change rooms. At this point we still hadn’t brought our bags in from the car. We were moved to lower basement floor, much better updated room. Looked a lot cleaner had aircon and updated bathroom. It did have a couple of stains on carpet, the curtains had been cut so were fraying at the bottom, which let it down slightly. Also wall had splatter marks from where someone had thrown something at the bin and missed, this hasn’t been cleaned even though the bin was right in front of the mark on the wall so they would Of seen it each time bin liner was changed. There was a fridge in this room, although looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in a while, we didn’t this ourselves as we needed the fridge. Bathroom was lovely however the shower tray had split in it so every time you stood in shower it looked like the crack was getting bigger. The first day we were there was left our sign on door asking to clean room this didn’t happen. However it did the next day, I don’t know if they have a set schedule to clean rooms. Staff lacked motivation and seemed like they didn’t want to be there. A young girl that worked in the dining room was very polite and always said hello and smiled. Others looked miserable. When we went down for breakfast on first morning no one to greet, we did know what the plan was so just sat ourselves at an empty table, it was about 10/15 mins before someone asked if we’d like tea or coffee.
