Private home less than 3 miles from desirable South Shore beach on Quicksand Pond. A private and peaceful home located in beautiful Little Compton, Rhode Island on 8 acres of land. Enjoy a vacation surrounded by stonewalls, meadows, on the pond, and only a short bike ride to the beach. Renovations recently completed including fresh paint, new carpets, new bathrooms, air conditioning and all new linens and bedding. The first floor has a large kitchen set up for anyone who loves to cook. The first floor has an open plan with plenty of space to relax with family and friends. The first floor also has a kitchen with wood stove, full bathroom, sunroom, living room and office with a pullout coach (queen size) and television. The second floor has three bedrooms, two with a queen beds, a full bathroom, and the master bedroom with a king bed with its own bathroom soaking tub and shower. The third floor is perfect for kids with two bedrooms; one has a set of twin bunks and two additional twin beds, the other bedroom has a full bed. The basement has a washer and dryer, ping pong table, and extra refrigerator/freezer. Outside enjoy the large yard that leads to the pond. Sit by the fire pit and watch the swans and deer over a cup of coffee or a cocktail. Plenty of space for outdoor yard games. There is also an outdoor shower to clean up after a beach day and a new grill and a large outdoor table that seats 10. We have two kayak (one kids kayak and one adult one) and a skiff (a flat bottom row boat) for you to use on the pond. There are a few beach chairs, beach wagon, beach toys, a cooler and beach bags for your use as well. Close to Newport, Boston, Cape Cod or only a ferry ride to Block Island, Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket. The house, formerly Edward Howland's farm, was the largest in Little Compton as of 1895 and included 500 acres. Today, the soft grey shingled house sits on one landscaped acre, surrounded by 200 acres of working farmland, preserved by the State of Rhode Island.The house has four bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms, and over 3,000 square feet of living space. Next door and across the street are beautiful farm stands with gorgeous produce, baked goods, and friendly neighbors. The house is five miles from South Shore Beach (public), five minutes from the LC town Center, and 15 minutes from shopping in Westport. The first floor has a roomy gourmet chef’s kitchen that opens into a large family room and adjoins a dining room and a second smaller library/sitting room with its own TV. There is also a powder room on the first floor. On the second floor, there is a spacious master suite with a full bathroom, sitting area, cathedral ceiling and wall of built-in bookcases. There is also a guest bedroom with two twin beds, a guest room with one queen bed, and another full bathroom. On the third floor, there are two small bedrooms with two twin beds each.Stone walls enclose the front lawn. A large flag stone terrace at the back of the house is a welcoming place to enjoy the pastoral views. There is a built-in gas grill in this patio area. Quakers arrived in Little Compton in the eighteenth century and remained a strong cultural presence well into the nineteenth. By 1900, Quaker meetings at the nearby Friends Meeting House and Cemetery (National Register of Historic Places) had ceased, however, Edward Howland continued to worship there each week until his death in 1903. Accordingly, a historic plaque on the house reads: “E. Cute Cape style house with hardwood floors, sun room, outdoor private patio, garage and plenty of parking. Easy access 3 steps and all rooms are on one floor. This property has a huge yard with an ocean view of our town beach, Westport Point and Elizabeth Islands. The living room has 2 couches, a fireplace and a mounted large screen smart Roku TV. The house sits on a dead end road with light traffic for a more quiet atmosphere. The front yard is huge and is very private, the back yard is bordered by a stonewall and tree line for privacy and there is a sheltered outside hot & cold shower. The master bedroom has a king size bed, two closets, and TV. The second bedroom has a bunk bed with a full size mattress on the bottom and a twin mattress on the top. There are 2 bathrooms, one with a tub/shower and the other with a shower. The basement has a washer and a dryer along with folding tables. The floors are hardwood and have been refinished and the kitchen which has ceramic tile floor. You can see the town beach from the house and there is also a town 'dog beach' on Sakonnet point which you can use. Little Compton is a very safe town off the beaten path with excellent restaurants just a short drive away. The Atlantic Ocean shore runs along our entire south end (Rhode Island Sound and Buzzards Bay) and the salt water Sakonnet River runs along our entire east shore. Little Compton is a very quiet, peaceful seaside farming community featuring beaches, a winery, farm stands, a quaint village called The Commons, and many historical sights. Some PLACES OF INTEREST are The Commons, Sakonnet Wine Vineyards (daily tours, and tasting), and near by Newport and Bristol. Daytrips to Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, Cuttyhunk and Block Island are reasonable. In addition to our own vineyard, in near by Westport there also is a vineyard, a brewery and great restaurants to visit. Little Compton has public beaches (Southshore Beach, Goosewing Beach, Lloyds Beach) and a couple private beaches (Warren's Point and Briggs Beach). Southshore Beach and Goosewing Beach can be seen from the house. We also have a great harbor at Sakonnet Point with views of our light house, Elizabeth Islands. Sakonnet Point also features Lloyds Beach and the harbor shore both of which are open for dogs to swim at.WALKING, BICYCLING, and ROLLER BLADING are a joy on the flat, beautiful roads and paths in Little Compton. Bicycles can be rented at Earl's and at Little Compton Adventures. SURFING CAMP run by locals features surfing lessons for kids and lessons for women over 16 as well as private lessons for all and surf boards can be provided for lessons (Little Compton Surf Camp website www.lcsurfcamp.com ). There are TENNIS and Pickle Ballcourts in town and a playground for children. GOLF: Montaup Country Club is 15 miles away in Portsmouth and is open to the public. Sakonnet Golf Club is a private course designed by one time summer resident Donald Ross just 2.5 miles away. Very private cottage walking distance to beach and within 2mi. of town Our home is near the sea and surrounded by meadows and stone walls. It is very private - the deer, songbirds and crashing waves are your closest neighbors. The house was completely renovated in 2009 . We are walking distance to beach. Winter views of water. We are less than two miles from the town of Little Compton and about 1.3 mi. to the Nature Conservancy's glorious Goosewing Beach. We are surrounded by acres of pristine land protected by conservancy restrictions. We have strategically planted trees to hide cars and neighbors. Trees, meadows, wildlife, stonewalls and waves are your closest neighbors. Have a cup of coffee and watch songbirds, wildflowers and deer through the expanse of sunny, south facing windows. Enter through the blue barn doors into the downstairs living room with a stone fireplace, a fold out full futon, and a childrens "rainy day" cabinet of games, books and toys. This main floor has 3 bedrooms and two full baths. ( one bath has a 6 ft. antique claw foot tub and heated floors) Washer and dryer are on this floor along with a second refrigerator . The closet in the laundry room holds cleaning supplies and first aid needs.Climb the stairs to the second floor. You may notice that all of the building material is reclaimed locally. (We attempted to add patina to new construction) The tall ceilings are covered in reclaimed barn wood. The beams and upper floor stone fire place mantel and all the trim were salvaged from a historic Fall River textile mill. The woodburning fireplace works well and we supply wood for you first nights fire. On this floor is the kitchen, dining area, second living room (with fold out queen sofa) and master queen suite with attached full bathroom. The large dining room table can accommodate all guests. This large second floor room boasts a broad expanse of sunny south east facing windows which capture the sunrises and hold midday heat even in the coolest of months. From these windows in the winter we have water views. The house is "an upside down house" with the kitchen and main living room on this second floor to capture the views. The master suite has a queen bed and full bath . The floor of the bathroom can be heated with a flick of a switch. A loft ladder behind the fireplace takes you to the upper bedroom which has two twin beds, a television, a telescope and distant views of the ocean. Outside off of the second floor dining area/kitchen double doors lead to a large outdoor porch. There is an expandable cedar dining table that can accommodate everyone along with a gas grill and more seating. Life outside can be enjoyed walking the trails cut through our 5 acres of meadow. We have a circular stone campfire area with outdoor seating off of the south east corner of the house. Between the east side of the house and the large evergreens we have a Petanque court. After a long day outside one can also wash off in the large outdoor shower .
