Our recent stay at Residencial Duque de Saldanha in Lisbon left much to be desired. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that this experience would not meet our expectations. Firstly, our host never introduced herself by name, and we received an aggressive message via WhatsApp before our arrival, outlining numerous restrictions without explanation. Unfortunately, our attempts to seek clarification through the same channel went unanswered, leaving us feeling frustrated. Upon check-in, we encountered further challenges. The lady at the front desk lacked proficiency in English and displayed impatience with our attempts to communicate in Portuguese. The location, while close to the Saldanha metro station, was far from the most interesting parts of the city centre. The B&B's condition also raised concerns. It spanned multiple floors of an apartment block, and while the lift was functional, the room itself was incredibly dated, surpassing even the pictures on the website. Maintenance issues were abundant, including a malfunctioning ceiling light, cobwebs, and disrepair around doors, floors & windows. The bathroom presented problems with drainage, sealant, and a broken accordion door. A persistent unpleasant smell permeated the room and corridor, and noisy toilet waste disposal only added to the discomfort. The bed was creaky and uncomfortable, and we were given only one bath towel and one hand towel for two people to share, a clear oversight (later remedied by the cleaning staff on our request) Additionally, several listed facilities were conspicuously absent from our experience. Despite repeated attempts to seek assistance, the only responsive individuals were the cleaning staff, who were friendly and helpful. In light of these issues, we felt compelled to contact Booking within hours of arrival, yet even after two days since our departure, we have received no response.
