Hostel Westküste

When we arrived to this hostel, the key waited us on the notice board, but when we got to our room, it was dirty and we didn't even have enough sheets for three people. I called to the number, that was given, but no answer. I also send an e-mail. Then we went to explore the city, and I expected that someone would call me back or read my e-mail. Nothing. We went back and the room was in same condition as before. I called again multiple times and finally I sent an e-mail, that we are leaving. Then I happend to see someone, that I thought was a cleaner. She didn't speak english/german, but she got there someone, who did. He said he is not the owner, nor does he work there, but all the sudden things started to happen. We got our room cleaned, and because it was getting late, and we had a child with us, we decided to stay. When we were leaving, there was a lady in reception, but she didn't ask, did we enjoy our staying... She must have known about our situation, but she didn't regret to that, either. Also we had to pay by cash and we had to ask for receipt, which she did give to us, but it was handwritten. So overall, not a very pleasent experience and definitely not well organized place. Obviously I don't recommend this place.

I stayed for two nights in a six-bed room and had a really nice experience. The rooms were clean, there were menstrual pads available in the bathroom and I even got a free towel (which most hostels charge you for). As for the location, I could reach everywhere on foot and there was a bus stop close to the hostel as well. The reception wasn't available when I got here, but they left me my key. It was easy to get around the rooms/facilities (there's a little Kochnische with a kettle, a mini fridge and a microwave) on my own and check-in officially the next morning. The owners also gave me some tips on the Strandbäder in Lindau and were really friendly.

Don't be one of the travellers (like us ) that will be duped into staying here. They are trying to use a run down old house as a guest house. When the staff were speaking in Spanish they didn't think I could understand them when they said that their plans were just to tear down the building to sell the property. So I would expect conditions will just get worse.

I do not recommend this hostel. Don't go there. My friend and I stayed there for one night and we had a very bad experience. To begin, we arrived early, at 1 pm. The check-in written on my booking was 2 pm. There was no one at the reception to great us for 40 minutes! (The big red button and phone number didn't do anything.) When a staff member finally arrived at the counter, she said the check-in was only at 2h30 pm, which is not what my booking said. I asked if we could store the luggages while we waited for our room. She said to leave them in the lobby. We didn't want to do that so she then (and only then) asked my name and looked for my reservation. Our room was ready and early check-in was possible after all (not that early anymore). The lack of professionalism was astounding. They complained between themselves about us to our faces in Spanish. When it became clear that we understood them, they switched topic. Then, the building is in dire need of structural repairs. The floor is rotten in the shower room and no new pvc flooring will change the fact that the floor is giving in in certain spots. Doors to cross between buildings are only 5 feet tall. Adding to that, the curtains in our room were partially unhooked and we were too short to adjust them. Finally, the lobby closes at 8h30 (we were told to leave). Since our room provided neither phone nor television, its a good thing we had our own entertainment.

Aufgrund eines Konzerts reiste ich nach Lindau an. Ich wollte nicht am Abend zurückfahren, also sah ich mich nach einer günstigen (billigen?) Unterkunft um. Die "Westküste" versprach für kleines Geld eine Übernachtungsgelegenheit. Ich wusste, dass ich mich zu einem Sechspersonenzimmer (also mit fünf fremden Menschen) hab hinreißen lassen, aber egal. Eine Nacht muss gehen. Angekommen, hing auf einer Wand die Briefkuverts inklusive Zimmerschlüssel der Neuankömmlinge zur Selbstbedienung. Das Haus ist schon alt, die Treppen steil, aber machbar. Das für mich vorgesehene Bett war schon belegt und nach telefonischer Rücksprache konnte ich mir das nächst freie Bett aussuchen. Toiletten und Dusche sind für alle Gäste im Gang. Für den Zweck günstig zu übernachten reichte es. Würde ich das Hotel weiterempfehlen? Nein, in meinem Alter übernachtet man so nicht mehr wirklich; überrascht hat mich trotzdem, dass eher gesetzteres Publikum dort übernachtet hat. Aber es ist kein Hotel für einen gepflegten Urlaub. Ja, das Frühstück kann man sich schenken.

Es war die günstigste verfügbare Unterkunft. Es lag nahe dem Bodenseeradweg. Zwei steile schmale Holztreppen zu einer "Holzbrücke" (Außenbereich / 2. Obergeschoß) die zu den Zimmern führten. Durchgangstüren dieser "Holzbrücke" ca. 1,60 m hoch. Eine Toilette für alle Zimmer. Zwei Waschbecken für alle Zimmer. Zwei Duschen für alle Zimmer. Kein Fernseher. Fahrräder konnten zwar im Schuppen abgestellt werden, der Schlüssel hing jedoch frei zugänglich für jeden an der Nebeneingangstür. Ich war mir nicht so sicher, ob der Fußboden vor den Waschbecken noch tragfähig ist. Es liegt zwar direkt am Bahnhof, um zu diesen zu kommen ist der kürzeste Weg (600 m) über die Thierschbrücke.
