Fascinating building full of history; library (look out for the trompe l'oeil), unusual breakfast room; adjacent small vineyard.

This hotel is conveniently situated for both Santander & Bilbao. Check out until 12 noon is useful. The room was very comfortable and spacious. The food was lovely. There is a nice riverside walk not far from the hotel.

Thank you for fitting me in as an Amigos walk in. I'd ridden over the mountain after not getting into a booking. Been before and enjoyed the one night. The Parador is in a beautiful area with great roads to ride a motorbike. Staff very helpful and friendly as usual.

We've stayed at this Parador before because it's within easy striking distance of the ferry at Santander (and Bilbao too). We spent a night there, on half-board, at the end of our Spanish touring holiday The Parador is based round a gracious (nineteenth century?) country house. The sleeping accommodation is in modern wings which have been built on. We had a pleasant, comfortable room. Good restaurant with an interesting menu and efficient service. There's parking at the front of the hotel (chargeable) or free parking further away in the hotel grounds; we opted for the paying parking as it was more convenient for luggage. I suspect most guests stay on half-board because I'm not sure there are too many restaurants in the surrounding area that are in easy reach of the hotel. This is a good place at which to start or end your Spanish holiday

We booked this place for our last night in Spain prior to a return to the UK. The location of the hotel is lovely - quite remote with woodland around. Sadly the positive experience ends there. Where to start.... The grounds themselves look sad and neglected - with some good maintenance it could be exceptional. the whole place looks tired and in need of better management. Weeds are everywhere and there is not enough serving staff. The pool is uninviting and again needs work. We stayed at several Paradors on our trip and this one was by far the worst for service and quality. The hotel is an old palace with new extensions on each wing. These are poorly insulated for noise and you can hear people snoring next door and clumping around. The restaurant is shambolic. We booked an evening meal and it took over 45 minuted for food to arrive. What did arrive was bland and uninspiring delivered by a chubby bearded waiter who needs training in customer service. No smile, he really didn't seem to enjoy his job. No apology for the delay either. Breakfast was a duplicate - coffee was served in a jug and we were told to help ourselves to a teabag and hot water - no other Parador was this bad. The hot food when delivered was again poor lacking in seasoning and quality. My wife's tortilla with potato had no potato !!! Overall not one to go to. Many will because of the nearness to the ferry port. If we were doing the trip again we would avoid this place and book elsewhere.
