Simama Hotel

I visited Simama Hotel in Lilongwe with my friends, and we had such a lovely experience. The hotel has a calm, welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel comfortable from the moment you arrive. The rooms were clean, well maintained, and perfect for relaxing after a long day out. The staff were friendly and helpful, always making sure we were taken care of, which really added to the overall experience. The environment felt safe, peaceful, and ideal for both group stays and quiet getaways. The Hotel was a great choice for our trip, and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Lilongwe especially if you’re traveling with friends and looking for a comfortable, pleasant stay.

I recently stayed at Simama Hotel in Lilongwe, and it was an overall pleasant experience, with clean and comfortable rooms, friendly staff, and a welcoming atmosphere throughout the hotel; the on-site restaurant served a good variety of meals though service could be a bit slow during busy times and the facilities, including the pool and common areas, were well maintained, while the hotel’s convenient location made it easy to access shops and transport, ultimately offering solid value for money and making it a stay I would consider repeating.

Simama Hotel was terrible on multiple levels. The rooms including the carpet, linen and curtains were filthy. Requested a change of linen and it was worse. Discovered they did not even have a vacuum cleaner to deal with the dusty carpet. There were multiple occasions where our food was off, the meat was not fresh, I skipped meals because I did not want to risk food poisoning. We had cockroaches in the dinning area, on the tables, and what I believe were rodents in the ceiling. A health risk, emotional turmoil and certainly not worth your peace of mind. I must add though, the staff were friendly and did try their best to make our stay a little bearable, but it was clear that their hands were tied, they did not have the resources to improve the situation.

Within 10 minutes of checking in we found bed bugs in the bed. We were gaslighted and told it was sand. If I can post the picture, I will and you can decide for yourself if the picture shows bed bugs. We were put out for transportation to a new hotel and more money for the room. Not to mention the place hasn’t been decorated in years. It looks a luxury hotel from out of I Love Lucy era.

I organised a two day workshop here for mixed European, African and Vietnamese colleagues. I was actually quite pleased. The staff were all very helpful and friendly and made us all feel welcome. My room was a decent size, it was clean and comfortable and the air conditioning worked very well. Some of the rooms are apparently a bit small so if that is an issue for you check beforehand. I enjoyed the food and the fish from Lake Malawi was very good. The view from my bedroom at the front of the hotel was pleasent. Although the view was across the main road it was still surprisingly quiet. I would definately stay here again, if the opportunity arises.
