YHA South Downs

We walked from Peacehaven to this YHA with our 6 and 9 year old. It was a stunning hike all made feasible by the great amenities offered by the YHA which allowed us to carry less. We prepped food to cook on the fire pit on arrival and were able to utilise the crockery/cutlery in the communal kitchen. The kids listened to the birds - so many goldfinches - and picked ripe blackberries as the sun went down. A fantastic cheap holiday adventure, staying in one of their fab land pods. The breakfast was also the best YHA breakfast we’ve had and the staff super friendly and helpful. Thanks for helping make our family adventure a big success!

YHA Southdowns is in a good spot and clean location but it lacks inclusivity for people with limited mobility as there are no ramps and the doors(not just lounge even toilers) are very narrow I booked this spot as it was available for long weekend but it was not a great stay. I got a regular room even though I requested wheelchair friendly room for my father in special request in the booking. It was nightmare getting him in and out of the toilet. Lounge is inaccessible as it's not wheelchair friendly(they could have installed mini ramps), so are the surrounding spots. They are letting anyone park in disabled spot so I had to push my dad on a wheelchair over the pebble path before reaching the ramp(even though I did check with receptionist during my checkin- Basically all guest were using disabled spots leaving the people in need in distress and management doesnt care). The service said that entire menu is not available on May 25th sunday when the groceries close early and there are no restaurants nearby due to location. WiFi is worst as well. As it's in secluded location, mobile network is already bad and absolutely 0 signal in rooms away from lounge. Its surprising that lounge and reception which are in two different corners have good connectivity but the middle portion of rooms didnt have one

Another great stay at a YHA for our little walking group. This time at the South Downs. Lovely hostel with friendly helpful staff as usual. Great location for walking the South Downs. Also usefully close to a train station so it is easy to plan a one way walk back to the hostel from either Seaford or Eastbourne depending on how energetic you are feeling. (23km or 30km). Nearest pub the Abergavenny Arms just over a mile away which is excellent for food and nice ales.

This is a lovely little cafe, with very friendly staff. It has a sunny courtyard garden and is dog friendly. The place is frequented by walkers, cyclists and passers-by. This is the place for a snack, en route to somewhere or during a footpath walk. It has a fairly varied menu, cakes and drinks. The cooking is good. The prices are reasonable. The facilities are clean. My only complaint - I would like to see a more varied vegan menu, in keeping with many other venues.

We had a quick and easy check in and our dorm room for 6 was clean and comfortable. We all had evening meals in the café and a hot breakfast in the morning. The food was delicious and all of the staff were so friendly and helpful, especially Colin on the morning we left. Highly recommended for travellers and families.

The booking was easy, staff were very helpful and polite, I would 100% stay here again, really good value for money. It has everything you need for a short stay. The room was clean and tidy, beds were simple and adequate for what you pay. Thank you
