Playitas Hotel - Sports Resort

We had a really great and above all active holiday. It was a good mix of sport, day trips and relaxing by the pool. We took advantage of many sports programmes during our stay. We particularly enjoyed the Metcon, WOD and Olympic Weightlifting classes with Stephane, which we attended almost every day.

First of all: we have never been on holiday in the same place twice, not even thinking of the same hotel! But here at Playitas it is different, we are total fans of the whole concept. The facility is great, the food is top notch and the best thing are the coaches who work here. We would particularly like to highlight Stephane Bacchellerie (former professional triathlete) because he makes a sustainable difference with his encyclopedic knowledge and his trained eye for the right posture. Even professional athletes we have met confirm the high quality of his classes. He is one of the main reasons why we have booked for the third time and are really looking forward to our training camp with sun, good food and nice active people.

Sadly today was the worst golfing experience I have ever had, entirely due to the woman who took our £185 euros for two rounds of golf and a buggys. HER words were make sure you dont go any earlier than your tee time. She gave us buggy number 3 , we could not start it and when I went to tell her she eventually came out and waggled the pedal. It continued to stop start all the way round until the 12th hole , I phoned and she answered eventually a guy came with another buggy and changed it. On returning to the clubhouse, she said nothing no apology or anything she totally ignored us. So I say to the owners of this place ...send her on a customer service course? We will never be back and will never recommend this course

This was already the second time for me at Playitas hotel (first time a few years ago), so I knew already what to expect: great breakfast and dinner options, so even for 2 weeks stay is was not getting too repetitive. Many sports events, activities and facilities to choose from (some of them against a small charge, others free), and everything is very well organized. The whole resort seems to work like a well oiled clockwork. I had the same room as the first time I was there (a Junior suite in block 4), which was very spacious, had a big balcony and with great views of the resort and the ocean. The (public) beach is just in front of the resort and allows you to cool off in the sea. Most of the guests seem to prefer the pool to the beach, but the water temperature of the pool was much too hot for me and not refreshing enough, so I always went to the beach for sun bathing and swimming; it was largely empty apart from a few locals; the only disadvantage was the sand blowing around when it was windy; and the (dark) sand was usually very hot, but I knew this and put on my water shoes when going into the water; this also helped with the stones that are quite frequent on the beach and in the shallow water. Only a couple of minor points: The shower in the bathroom is of the open walk-in/drive-in type without any separation on the floor, so water will tend to run into the bathroom, especially when using the overhead shower. Better use the hand-shower and point it inside to minimize the effect, and/or put a towel on the floor to prevent the water from running further into the bathroom. My shower sink also started to smell a bit after the first week, but this was fixed the same day I reported it. Furthermore, being a light sleeper, I had some problems sleeping on the first night with a low frequency motor hum coming on every 15 minutes for a couple of minutes from a kind of service room next to my room (probably a water pump or something to do with the air conditioning). Ear plugs did not help much with those low frequencies, but I solved this by simply putting on the air conditioning fan each night (without cooling) which made a very similar but constant noise so that I did not notice the other motor switching on and off anymore.

Playitas is really a great resort for families looking to just get away and swim in the pool or for those looking to take a holiday and train at the gyms here or as a part of the activities. The staff are all incredibly nice. Fuerteventura itself is somewhat of a barren rock but for me it was quite interesting as a contrast to the Swedish landscape. Playitas is also situated badly I'd you are interested in exploring the rest of the island. Taxi trips quickly stack up and get expensive. The restaurants in the small village besides Playitas have closed to (accommodate the resort I presume). The room we got was terrific and looking around it doesn't look like Ike any of the rooms would be bad. The sea gets deep quickly and isn't a great to swim in. I traveled here with my 6 year old son and he loved the multiple pools and the water-slide. If I were to come back I'd like to do it with the idea of using the gym facilities and training for a week or two.

It was a nice and spacious location right at the ocean. I enjoyed the variety of classes and option for different workouts. Especially the olympic lifting and metcon/ x-fitness classes with Stephane. He is a great coach and gave me some really helpful tips on my olympic lifts. Rooms and surroundings at the hotel were always super clean. The breakfast selection was diverse and also very good.
