This farm is over 470 years old. The first householder built his house here in 1547. The family Töyrylä lived here in the 18th century. They made cheese and exported it to Germany. The great great grandfather of the Finnish national composer Jean Sibelius was born here in 1721. The old house was demolished and the new Töyrylä Manor was built in 1879. However, they didn't tell it to the taxman before 1904. So officially the manor was established in 1904. Doors, floor planks and windows are still original but the manor has been restored carefully. However, the baroque-style gazebo in the lovely garden is new. Nowadays Töyrylä Manor (Töyrylän kartano in Finnish) is a boutique hotel. It is situated in the middle of nowhere in Artjärvi (address Värjärintie 2), Orimattila. Actually it is located almost in the middle point of the triangle which connects Porvoo, Lahti and Kouvola. The distance from Helsinki Central Railway Station is 100 kilometers. This manor is extremely unique, one of the most interesting houses I have ever visited. Antique furniture is awesome. This manor serves both as a luxurious feast location (family gatherings, weddings, christening ceremonies, birthday parties, memory services, business meetings) and as a small hotel. Also some TV series have been filmed here. Individual hotel rooms may be booked from mid-May to mid-September but the manor is open for private groups round the year. Public rooms are situated on the ground floor and six hotel rooms in the upstairs. Rooms are very historical but all modern facilities are available, including private bathrooms. In addition some romantic summer rooms may be available in adjacent buildings (e.g. the gamekeepers lodge). Room prices are about 170 euros and suites cost about 240 euros per night including taxes and the manor breakfast. The biggest suite is 40 square meters large but the smaller suite has a remote lake view. So prices aren't too high, I think. I really recommend this manor hotel if you love countryside, history, antique furniture, beautiful art and total relaxing.
