The staff in reception, cafeteria and restaurant were exceptionally helpful and friendly. The hotel, although situated on a busy road is well insulated and traffic noise was no problem. The private car park was spacious and worth using. As someone who is gluten-intolerant, it is important to me that I am able to eat with confidence, and not become ill during my holiday. My special thanks to Angel and Doli (Dorotea) in the restaurant, who made a real effort to provide me with lovely food. The buffet breakfast and dinner were both excellent for everyone. This hotel would have scored 10/10 if it had not been for the poor performance of the bedroom cleaning staff. Stains on the bedroom floor when we arrived were still there when we left. We accidentally broke a glass tumbler and gathered up all of the pieces we could find. They were left on the table in our room - despite being carefully wrapped and it being obvious what had happened they were left where we had put them the following day. We needed to take these pieces to reception in order to obtain a new glass. Unfortunately a small shard of glass had escaped our notice and one of us had a cut on our foot the following day from walking on it. Areas in the bathroom had obviously not been cleaned for some time. A single sachet of decaf coffee on arrival did not meet our expectations of what would be provided - luckily we had brought our own. The coffee, single tea bag and single milk (one teaspoonful) were not replaced at any time. On our final day there we decided to put up a 'do not disturb' sign on our room because we were more dubious about the cleaning procedures and were happier to look after ourselves, as hygiene was obviously not a priority of that particular cleaning team Sweet wrappers and rolls of dust lined the corridor from our room to the lift - obviously these had not materialised overnight! They were still there when we left. We never heard a vacuum cleaner, or saw a mop being used despite seeing the so-called cleaning staff several times daily. However, importantly, the communal areas around the lounge/bar, reception, and restaurant were all immaculately clean at all times. The purpose of our visit was to be able to walk into Gibraltar, but we discovered that La Linea is such a pretty town, with lovely squares and interesting architecture, that we spent more time than planned in that town instead. There is an excellent Wednesday street market.
