Koh Mook Sea View Bungalow

This little gem of a place in the heart of the fishing village was a real find. The rooms are new, clean and basic and everything was perfect. The staff are so welcoming and the location is just wonderful. To sit in an evening and hear the waves crashing on the shore was blissful.

It’s a small guest house with around 10 rooms situated in the heart of the fishing village in Ko Mook. Consequently the beach isn’t perfect white sand- at low tide it’s a bit muddy with the detritus you expect in a working village. This is generally true of all the beaches on Ko Mook except Charlie Beach on the other side of the island (interesting 25 min walk). Our room had a patio facing towards the sea, it was a good size, very clean, with a/c and a comfy bed. (No fridge or tv if for some reason you wanted one!) We slept well though there was some early morning cockerel activity and caged birds are very popular on the island. The neighbours have 2 mynah birds who have perfected a wolf whistle, so expect to hear that as a dawn chorus! The staff are friendly and a couple speak ok English. It’s a 5 minute walk into the main part of the village and to the boat pier. A highlight for us was seeing turtles and dugongs from the pier.On one night around 10pm we saw 3 dugongs very close up and countless turtles. This is apparently very unusual- even locals were excited. We paid 1000THB for the room which was a fair price. We actually asked if we could stay longer but unfortunately they were full. Ko Mook is an interesting island, with more locals than tourists. The guest house is amongst their homes rather than surrounded by resorts which I really enjoyed but if you’re looking for a sterile resort experience it may not be for you.
