Hraunsnef Country Hotel

Stopped for dinner on my way from Reykjavik to Akureyri. Had the “Hraunsnef Burger” and it both filled my stomach and pleased my soul for the remaining trip. Highly recommended for the whole family ... the best bite on Highway #1 between Reykjavik and Akureyri.

This was among my favorite places we stayed on our trip to Iceland. I loved having the farm animals right outside and after not sleeping on our evening flight and traveling all day, the cozy room was perfect. My favorite part was the restaurant. Not only was the food amazing, but sipping a glass of wine on the enclosed terrace with the rain and watching the duck pond was almost magical.

We just loved this place. The farm setting is lovely and has a wonderful panoramic view. The many farm animals added to the ambience! Watching the ducks on the pond outside the restaurant was relaxing. The highlight was the outdoor hot tub that we used both evening and morning of our one-night stay! The room was nicely appointed, welcoming, and comfortable. Perhaps smallish by US standards but definitely not the smallest of our trip. We had two meals in the restaurant and can highly recommend the food. Staff is friendly and attentive.

The hotel is located adjacent to a hill surrounded by dramatic scenery with sheep nearby, and farm animals onsite. From the parking lot, there's even a hiking trail leading up into the nearby mountains along a flagged path. The hotel is just a few minutes past Grabrok crater, off of the main highway, far enough away to not be bothered by any noise. The rooms are nicely furnished albeit a bit tight (for example the bathroom door only opens 45 degrees before hitting the nightstand). The rooms came with a flat screen tv and bath robes, although there were very limited channels. The property also contained at least one standalone bungalow or apartment for rent which is probably more suited to families. The restaurant is good, provides many options for dinner, and is also the spot for the included breakfast. The inside has interesting contemporary artwork, while there's a covered porch, more of a greenhouse really that provides more outdoor exposure. From here, you can see a nearby pond with ducks as well as a fenced in area with cows and pigs which were a hit with the kids. Overall, I found this to be a nice peaceful place to stay, a convenient and pleasant stopover. -quiet peaceful area

Agréable et belles vues. Le restaurant est un peu cher. Devrait avoir plus d’options halal pour la clientèle musulmane. C’est vraiment agréable mais un peu cher. Il y a un hot tub. Le cottage est aussi très sympathique et agréable. Il y a un canyon derrière l’hôtel.
