Kirkwall Youth Hostel

"As other Reviewers have stated, it is a hostel. It is clean and tidy and bare bones. I stayed here with a group of 15 people for a week as we used the Hostel as our base while we traveled by car and ferry to hike around the Orkney Islands. We shared basic rooms and there are communal showers/toilets that are separated for women/men. Sheets and towels are provided. There is a communal kitchen where we cooked every night and cubbies & fridge to store food. A pub is a quick 15 min walk away for drinks and the town is probably 20-25 mins walk. There is a large communal area to eat and a large lounge to read, be on your phone or otherwise relax. Overall great staff and had no issues the days we were there. We were up early every morning and back around 5 pm each night. The glorious week of sun and a little rain kept us outside exploring the beautiful Islands"

"Siamo state in visita alle Orcadi in un viaggio sognato da tempo nella vera Inghilterra, lontano dalle grandi città, scoprendo la Scozia profonda e più e alloggiare in questo hotel è stata la scelta migliore. Camere accoglienti e curate in ogni dettaglio, partendo sicuramente dall'igiene e dal buon odore di pulito. La struttura dispone di ristorante. Piatti della tradizione classica inglese, ma soprattutto succulenti piatti scozzesi, dai sapori per noi mediterranee del tutto nuovi: una vera scoperta. Eccellente birra e per la sera un whisky delle higlands meraviglioso. Porteremo sempre dentro di noi un ricordo meraviglioso. Vorremmo ricordare i nomi degli addetti che ci hanno aiutate ma non ci è possibile quindi un grazie sincero a tutto lo staff: thanks a lot!"

"A little away from main centre, easy walk of 20 mins. Good breakfast. Eric generously provided a lift to the chemist while it was raining. Rooms being renewed , new rooms lovely older ones comfortable enough. We were part of a Rabbies tour and didn't book ourselves. Happy with our stay."

"Having come off the boat after a weeks sailing I needed a B&B to lay my head before flying out the following day. From the moment of booking this B&B has been so helpful. I requested if I could leave my bag early while I explored for the day, they allowed me to drop it off & even popped in my room when it was ready. The en suite room was clean, tidy & more than catered for my needs. Breakfast was a combination of help yourself & a cooked breakfast ordered the night before. I thoroughly recommend this place it’s a max 5 min walk to bus station & into town. Special mention to Andrew who was really helpful when it came to finding out the airport bus timings, holding my bag & dropping it in my room & generally helpful. Will definately stay again if passing through in the future."

"Quando mi è stato dato il considerato di arrivo, sono disabile, mi è stato offerto un salotto in piedi, tutto lo spazio era immacolato con i contatti personali aggiunti. Perché abbiamo scelto di non andare in città per cena, il proprietario suggerì cibo locale che consegna. Abbiamo ordinato una consegna e siamo seduti nella comoda sala da pranzo a Grainbank Mews. Molto felice abbiamo scelto Grainbank Mews per il nostro soggiorno di due notti a Orkney."
