We stayed 3 nights in one of the hotel rooms along the covered walk-way front deck area -- not in one of the cottages. Price was OK for the location and the staff was friendly and helpful when it came to recommendations for places to eat and other questions. However, the AC seemed to struggle to keep the room cool. Unfortunately, the bathroom window was a sealed unit and would not open, because the temps outside were such that we could have gotten a nice cross breeze by opening that window along with the main room window. As it was, we did open the main room window for a bit during the day (at night the bugs came in since there was no screen). The fridge was a dorm-size (larger) one with a separate freezer section and worked well. Plumbing in the bathtub worked fine but was loose on the wall. Bring your own box of Kleenex as they don't supply that. There were NO chairs in the room (2 full-size beds, nightstand, a dresser, and a table). Room was small and any chairs would be in the way of people walking back and forth. Smokers or people making noise outside could be problematic as the walls are thin. Parking is right outside your door. The boardwalk/deck along the doorways is adequately lit at night. There are two steps up from the gravel lot up onto the entrance deck. You will be issued good old-fashioned keys for your room and that doorknob/lock is the only security closure for the door. Garbage cans outside were visited by 3-4 roaming cats looking for food at night but they were emptied each day as far as I could tell. We experienced no other real problems with our 3-day stay. The wifi worked flawlessly and check-in / check-out were simple and straightforward. Cape Hatteras ferry is about 25-minute drive to the south. Can't beat the location if you're looking for the whole OBX experience. National Seashore and Wildlife areas are close by.
