First stay was in July 2019. We picked the hotel because it was the cheapest option at that exit. Our expectations were not super high because of the price. The rooms were about what we expected, clean but really musty with carpet that needed to be replaced and walls that needed to be repainted. It was kinda gross, but it is also a budget hotel. They were doing renovations and the elevator was down. We were on the 3rd floor. We survived, but it was a hassle when we had to carry our luggage up and down the stairs. Because of the renovations, I don't think they had breakfast options. Not great, but, again, cheap hotel you get what you get, right? The thing that stank was they turned off the water every day for a set number of hours. THAT WAS AWFUL. If you were in your room during that window, you couldn't shower or flush the toilet. If you came back after the water had been turned back on, the water came out funky colored and spit at you. It just wasn't a great hotel stay and we decided next time we needed to visits Ashtabula, we'd stay somewhere else. Jump ahead to March 2023. We had to travel for a funeral. I get online to find a hotel, this is the ONLY hotel at that exit that had rooms for the weekend we were in town. So, we have to take what we can get. I recall us saying that since they had recently done renovations, the hotel was going to be nicer than when we were there 4 years ago. It was marginally nicer. Same musty smell, same worn carpet. The walls didn't seem as beat up and they had a pretty decent breakfast spread for this class of hotel. The water pressure was awful and never got above a tepid temperature even when I ran the shower for more than 10 minutes. My husband had the same issue, so this wasn't related to me not knowing how to use a hotel shower. The bathroom's pocket door was out of alignment and would not close, leaving a good 2-inch gap between the bathroom and the room. That doesn't sound like a lot, but it is pretty huge when you are sharing the room with your spouse and don't want them up close and personal when you are sitting on the toilet. Her is why I would NEVER stay here again: the elevator. Second day into our stay, we get trapped in the elevator. We tried the emergency phone - NO ONE ANSWERED. I suppose, at that point, we should have called 911, but we had this bizarre sense of "someone at the hotel can get us out." So... we googled the hotel and found a phone number for the front desk. We called them THREE TIMES before someone answered. The staff was incredibly kind and attentive once we got someone on the phone, calling us every few minutes to let us know what maintenance was doing and then to say the fire department was on the way. We were only trapped for 15-20 minutes and, I get it, things break down. While not common, getting trapped in an elevator is not the hotel's fault. What IS their fault is the fact that 1. the emergency phone did not work in the elevator and 2. no one answered at the hotel when we c
