The people are lovely - so cheerful and helpful. Reception, room, pool, bar, grounds and overall ambiance are also great and the beach is beautiful white sand. However, there are two flies in the ointment. First - flying from the UK, don't assume you will get there in a single day. Bequia airport is not lit, so if you get any delay to your transfer from UK, you'll have to stay overnight elsewhere. Then, the next day flight to Bequia from Barbados leaves quite late, so almost another day is lost. Repeat stayers we spoke to now always plan on it taking two days to get there. Second - the food service in the Bagatelle restaurant is really poor. Breakfast - you get taken to your seat and asked what you want to drink but nothing turns up. When you do get something, you will continually have to chase for a refill. The breakfast buffet is almost always lacking plates, bowls and glasses, as is the bread for toast. Dinner is almost worse - courses come out of order, can take 45+ minutes to arrive, drinks don't arrive until you've nearly finished your main course and I got a least one plateful that was more school dinner than restaurant quality. I spoke to a number of other guests and their experience was much the same. And yet everyone is so cheerful and helpful! How can the service be so bad when there is such a cheerful workforce? Rather spoilt our holiday.
