Vuma Hills

Wonderful tented camp, well laid out tents and lovely setting on a hillside. Perfect for our family of 4. The staff are really great- kind, helpful and welcoming. The food is the best we’ve had on safari, really top notch. Excellent vegetarian/non-meat options and everything was truly delicious.

We flew in with Safari Air from Dar es Salaam, and the journey was very smooth and easy. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by our lovely guide, Zax, who made us feel welcome right away. Our arrival at Vuma Hills Lodge was seamless, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. We stayed for three nights and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The food was absolutely lovely—fresh, flavorful, and thoughtfully prepared. The game drives were a definite highlight, offering great sightings and a knowledgeable guide who made the experience even more enriching. One small downside, which is out of the lodge’s control, was the lack of hot water due to overcast weather—Vuma uses solar geysers. That said, it didn’t detract too much from our experience. Overall, it was a very relaxed and memorable stay. Being so close to nature, with the sounds and sights of the bush all around, was truly special. Highly recommended for anyone looking to unwind and enjoy the beauty of Tanzania.

We had a nice stay at Vuma Hills. The room was clean and spacious, the food was great, also the lunch boxes. Staff was friendly. Advice to the staff: a welcome at the parkingplace when you arrive or when you come back from a game drive with a refreshing towel would be great. Saying goodbye from the parking place when you leave would also be nice and it makes the experience more personal. This is quite common in other lodges. Here you walk to the restaurant and will be greeted by the staff there. Location is on top of a hill and from the restaurant you have a wonderful view. From our tent we mostly saw trees. Be careful: in wet conditions the steep paths in the camp are very slippery because of algae. We chose to walk next to the paved path. We visited in May and it was still rain season, it was rather humid in the area. In the tent the sheets and towels were a bit damp. When we arrived there was no room to stay for our driver-guide. That was really not OK, we booked months ahead and now he had to go back to Mikumi (1 hour drive) for the first night. The camp was undergoing renovations and most driver-guide sleeping places were used for the workmen and storing building materials. Luckily a place was found for him for the 2nd and 3rd night after we spoke to the manager and reservation office. There is a nice little swimming pool, great to have a dip after a warm and dusty day.

Nice location, great people, plenty of animals. Our first camp on this trip. It was very comfortable. However, based on a hill, it was difficult for one of our party to navigate as she has a breathing problem. That said, nothing was too much trouble for the staff and they went out of their way to help. Tanzanian people are superb.

Nice accommodation, great food and great staff. Stairs are an integral part of this location. Quite different from some of the parks we visited as the habitat was considerably more dense and the animals more difficult to spot. New experience with the "bush babies" at the camp. Had an amazing, peaceful stay at Vuma Hills! We had the pleasure of staying here for two nights in tent 10. Very close to the main lounge and pool. Our room was very spacious, perfect for a family and hot water in the shower. Perfect after a hot day in the bush of Mikumi. Loved the elephant theme on the bathroom vanity. Plenty of room to store your bags and spread out. Views from our room of the woodlands and sunset were stunning. Everyone on the team were pleasant and friendly. The food was delicious and they provided us with plentiful lunch packs to take on our game drives. We were even visited by the bush babies! We were happy to see after reading about them in previous reviews. We can't thank the whole team at Vuma Hills for making our stay perfect. Hihly reccomend and look forward staying here on future trips.
