We didn’t think the lodge deserved 5 stars for our 4 night stay, despite the wonderful setting it enjoys looking onto the fjord. We encountered quite a few issues. We thought the food was poor, we apparently had a local chef for our stay who was really miserable and his food was always full of cream and butter, far too rich and samey. The rooms were really tiny for the cost, very little room for luggage and they were far too hot as the room heater was broken and had to be fixed by an engineer. It was not just our room, other guests had complained. Breakfast was table service but there was a lot of waste as they bought out the same things each day such as cured salmon, halibut and lamb, plus porridge, fruit and a choice of egg (they didn’t do poached) a nice touch however was a small loaf of bread baked in a tin for the table. The staff were ok but seemed very young and inexperienced (apart from the sommelier Alton, who was great and the only person who really knew about customer service, and made dinner special) The weather was disappointing which can’t be helped but that meant a lot of the activities were not possible so the lodge tried to organise other things which were not good value for money or were not possible for some guests who were less fit. We did see the lights but had to take a 400km round trip with a guide to Finnish border which we proactively instigated with a guide for a chance to see the lights. On a positive note the guides were excellent Haakon took us to see the lights and a lovely hike to a lighthouse and Tiina a beautiful hike to the blue lake.
