We spent 4 magical days at the lodge. Our primary goal was to see the Northern Lights in all its splendor. We got that and much more. The lodge, the staff , the food and the Northern Lights tour guide were all top notch. An experience of a lifetime. It exceeded our expectations.

We didn’t think the lodge deserved 5 stars for our 4 night stay, despite the wonderful setting it enjoys looking onto the fjord. We encountered quite a few issues. We thought the food was poor, we apparently had a local chef for our stay who was really miserable and his food was always full of cream and butter, far too rich and samey. The rooms were really tiny for the cost, very little room for luggage and they were far too hot as the room heater was broken and had to be fixed by an engineer. It was not just our room, other guests had complained. Breakfast was table service but there was a lot of waste as they bought out the same things each day such as cured salmon, halibut and lamb, plus porridge, fruit and a choice of egg (they didn’t do poached) a nice touch however was a small loaf of bread baked in a tin for the table. The staff were ok but seemed very young and inexperienced (apart from the sommelier Alton, who was great and the only person who really knew about customer service, and made dinner special) The weather was disappointing which can’t be helped but that meant a lot of the activities were not possible so the lodge tried to organise other things which were not good value for money or were not possible for some guests who were less fit. We did see the lights but had to take a 400km round trip with a guide to Finnish border which we proactively instigated with a guide for a chance to see the lights. On a positive note the guides were excellent Haakon took us to see the lights and a lovely hike to a lighthouse and Tiina a beautiful hike to the blue lake.

This place what a find - the hosts provide a top drawer personalised service whilst enabling g you to relax and enjoy yourself - nothing is too much trouble . The organised trips we took were fantastic and the food is Michelin standard. Special mention to Tina and Alton for hosting us so well and Philip the guide for his kindness and expertise

This is one of the more amazing and interesting places I have stayed. The building itself is fairly basic; a comfortable utilitarian modern building on the edge of a fjord. It probably has great views but we were there in January and out on activities in the few daylight hours. There is a rather gorgeous private spa (you book and pay for a 90 minute slot) with an outdoor jacuzzi - soak in hot bubbles as the snow freezes your hair. But basically you need to book an activity for each day you’re here. We did whale watching which was amazing: A long trip in a luxurious cabin cruiser amid beautiful fjord scenery to a deep fjord where the whales feed. It was snowing and cold and quite rough, but we saw lots of whales - you’re inside a comfy boat and then go out on deck if you wish for the best photos. The food at the lodge is extraordinarily good. 4 course Michelin style meals personally served by the chef. Lots of fish, rich sauces, creative veg. Extraordinarily good wine list with some good white burgundies. The staff are all very very friendly and attentive. I’m a workaholic with a busy job. After being here 24 hours I realised I was completely relaxed. I don’t remember when that last happened. So well worth it. Nice easyJet flight from Gatwick and we got their transfer - roads covered in snow though perfectly passable if you prefer to hire a car.

This place is incredible from the staff, accommodations, food and service. Five stars across the board! The team at the Lodge Experience goes above and beyond everyday and I know first hand given some travel delays! I’d recommend this place to anyone!

The lodge is lovely. The rooms are small but comfortable. Food is excellent - good quality and superb flavours. Portions are on the smaller side but enough for me. I want to focus on things that I couldn’t find out before arriving. Firstly, the light. As it was December the sun stayed below the horizon all the time. But there was light enough to see clearly from about 9.30 until 2-ish. Plenty of darkness which maximises the chances of seeing the Aurora. Dog sledding - it was roughly a 45 minute drive away. My advice would be to wear more layers than the lodge suggests. You get the 6 dogs from their kennels, fit their harnesses and attach them to the sled. That and instructions took about 30 minutes. The dogs are very friendly. The sledding itself was about an hour or a little longer. We are in our late 60’s and coped ok with the physical effort required. It was a beautiful experience - other than a short section where we drove through a blizzard. Lunch is provided in a hut with a fire. Whale watching - the skipper did a great job and we got very close to a pod of Orcas and fairly close to a group of Humpbacks. The boat is comfortable with a warm enclosed cabin. It is moored a short drive from the lodge. The boat ride out is about an hour. Then we had 2 hours searching for / watching the whales. We had a delicious lunch on the return journey. Of 11 guests, 3 felt seasick Northern Lights experience - this is a shortish walk uphill to a tepee with a warming fire. We needed to wear snowshoes which was hard work. The slope was rather steep - we only found out when talking to another guest that there is a longer bit less steep route available. It was in truth a bit dull - mainly because we didn’t see anything. But we did see the Aurora from the lodge on two consecutive nights. Final note: ask the staff questions if you have any. They give informative answers but do not volunteer much.

I apologize if this review is similar to one I tried to post earlier and I'm not sure where it went. But, this was a magical trip for us and the lodge was so much a great part of this trip. We were warmly met by Mike, who knows all things about hiking and photography. Eric manages the restaurant and this place serves some seriously great food. The Norwegian breakfast with smoked fish, cheese, and freshly baked bread was so good and filling. The chef, Semon, serves daily 5 star meals with incredible presentation. Eric has great wine suggestions. Eric also personally went out 3-4 mornings in his fishing boat to catch fresh fish for the evening meals....it just doesn't get any fresher than that. The central dining and sitting area has a wood burning stove and floor to ceiling windows looking out to the sea and islands. The rooms are clean, warm, and comfortable...ask for a room on the fjord side. The hiking is epic and the scenery awesome. There are so many outings to choose from. Eric has an almost magical ability to predict when the clouds will clear off for a view of the Northern Lights. The Lights were spectacular for us, especially when viewed on the water from the Lodge's yacht. We loved our trip and would go back in instant. The staff are so accommodating and friendly and make you feel like family.
