Six Senses Kanuhura

My daughter @libby4liberty and I were welcomed to @sixsenseskanuhura by JB, our Gem Rajeev, Adam, and Vel. Unfortunately I arrived very sick. The medical team made a room call then Libby and Rajeev took good care of me. Vel assisted my sick self in getting breakfast our first day. I didn’t get to snorkel on this trip, but I was able to enjoy the friendly staff: Suga and Ishani were over the top nice. The resort itself is beautiful and qualifies as a truly barefoot resort. The food is excellent. The Spanish restaurant named “The Point” actually has a Spanish chef from the Seville area. Don’t miss the salmon sushi, angus beef, polleto, churros, cheesecake, and of course coconut sorbet. My daughter loved the diving and snorkeling. The island itself is a turtle sanctuary and research area. The night before we arrived turtles hatched. This place is truly a delight to the “six” senses. Overall Ludicrously beautiful place with excellent service, stylish details and fun activities. A luxurious spot to unwind, get some sun and do some diving. Beautiful clean beaches. Incredibly clear water. Villa We stayed in Villa 23, a deluxe beach villa with pool on the west side of the island, right next to the wider beach which is incredibly beautiful, on the side where the jetties are - and the seaplanes (about 5 a day come in and out). It also meant we got the sunsets. I would say that the other (east) side is wilder but we found our side to be v convenient. The villa itself was lovely. Loads of room. A large double bathroom with a bath and 2 showers. A sofa, rocking chair and a very large super king bed. A hallway. A walk in dressing room. Modern Californian style. Quiet. Air con. Regularly and discretely cleaned. Water replenished. The pool is for looks really. It’s 90cm deep so a plunge at best. Good with small kids I suppose. I hear the retreats are particularly nice. Service The service was excellent. Never imposing or annoying. Just friendly, efficient and quick to turn things around. We didn’t make much use of our GEM (Guest Experience Manager) - we’re quite low maintenance and can work things out ourselves usually - but she was there whenever we needed her and sorted stuff out very quickly. The team at Six Senses Kanuhura seems happy to be there. I got the sense they enjoy their jobs. Many have been there for many years, some since well before Six Senses became the operator. The senior team were very present and seemed to be running things extremely well. We sensed a very positive culture. Six Senses On top of the excellent service, our feeling was that Six Senses is particularly thoughtful about sensory things - how to create an atmosphere - and this suits us well. The music was cool and always the right vibe (Thievery Corporation, Bob Marley, Jamie Cullum). The lighting was beautifully atmospheric. They lit a fire on the beach. The buildings have nice details, materials and textures. If you’re the sort that lights a candle to create an atmosphere at home, they could be the hotel brand for you. Wellness There is a gentle emphasis on wellness here. An Apple cider vinegar shot (called rocket fuel) is offered at breakfast. We took our medicine every day with a water chaser. The spa has excellent (single sex) sauna, steam, hot and cold plunges as well as very good massage. It’s quite expensive ($200+) but arguably worth it if you’re here to recover from a busy life. We also took a yoga class - which was great. It was led by an Indian teacher with a quite disciplined approach. Teachers from that part of the world often have this - counting breaths, going straight into a strong representation of a pose. He was very good, but I tend to prefer to adapt and find what feels good. In any case it got the day off to a bracing start. It was $45 for a 60 minute class and I did wonder if this should be included. In general

I think we’ve found our happy place. We visited Six Senses Kanahura as a couple for our Silver Wedding Anniversary in October 2023, but we just had to go back with our family this year, so that they could also experience the most tranquil holiday ever. It was also my wife’s 50th birthday, so a great excuse to book this trip. Kanahura is like most Maldivian Islands, so you can expect picture perfect white sands and a beautiful blue ocean. Where it differs from many, is that it is a perfect size to walk around, and you can do this without leaving the perimeter of the beach. Many islands have a “rough” side or an area that is inaccessible, but not here. You are also provided with bicycles or can be picked up by golf kart and taken wherever you wish to go on the island. It didn’t take long for us to settle in again, and our children understood and agreed with us instantly just what all the fuss had been about. Nothing too much had changed in a year, albeit the food menus had been revised to offer even more choice. Our favourite people were still here, managers and staff, and it was so lovely that we felt genuinely remembered by so many of them. I guess this is the point so many people make about Six Senses Kanahura, it’s the people who work on the island that turn a beautiful place into Paradise. Nothing is any trouble, ever, and every request is met with a kind and warm hearted smile. When you speak to the team here, it is so interesting to know who they are, where they are from, and to know that Six Senses IHG treat them well and appreciate them. We met people from India, Mauritius, Nepal, Ibiza, and of course we could never forget about you JB ( France ). Sameeh, our Gem, and one of the locals connected to us via a what’s app group, and this was invaluable to us. When we needed him, he was either there straight away in person or with the information we required. Highlights are many, but we really recommend engaging with the Water Sports team who took us on Jet skis to get up close and personal with the dolphins, on their motor boat to meet the turtles and the sharks, or testing out some of their brand new and on trend water sports equipment. Electric hydrofoil anybody? Ibrahim, you just have a way of knowing where to go and what to do …thank you. Other highlights include sunset drinks at The Point, the weekly BBQ on the beach, and just chilling in or around your beautifully appointed room ( all categories included, but for us the beach villas with pool offer the best of everything with easy access to the beach and sea and for a reasonable price). One family highlight ( apart from having complimentary ice cream on tap ) was the daily family game of Pétanque that we played on the beach by Sip & Sand. As frequent repeaters to Kanahura we know what to expect. However we continue to be delighted with this most beautiful island, the exceptional staff and its attentive friendly service in every area. The island with its natural soft sand and its luscious verdant walkways is a delight.The gardeners keep the island and beach well groomed and very natural. Your arrival at Male is seamless and soon you are on your sea plane to Kanahura. Once there your Gem ,management and all the staff make sure your holiday is a true escape . The food choices continue to evolve in all restaurants and caters for all tastes with lovely fresh food and excellent presentation. A special shout out to the baker for his exceptional daily freshly baked bread ,croissants and cakes.! The Point is a great place for evening drinks to watch the sunset and gaze out onto the beautiful ocean. There is plenty to do on the island whether on land or sea, we were lucky enough to see baby turtles hatch and dolphins in the ocean. JB ,the Resort Manager is always on hand with advice on anything you may need, just ask. If you are looking for a relaxed stay with great food and exceptional service,this is the one for you. There’s absolutely nothing negative I could say about my experience at kanuhura!The staff are lovely, the food is delicious, the nature is perfect and everything is done in such a thoughtful manner it’s shocking. Our gem shifu took amazing care of us. I can’t wait to return again and again

We’ve just returned from our stay at Six Senses in the Maldives, and everything was truly excellent! Our villa was spacious and perfect in every detail—a true piece of paradise that allowed us to relax from the very first moment. A special thanks goes to our GEM, Sameeh, who took care of every detail with great attention and kindness. All the staff, from the restaurants to the spa, were incredibly attentive and made us feel pampered at all times. A particular thanks to Elisa for the amazing diving experience and to Rohit for his Hatha yoga, sound healing, Pilates, and aerial yoga classes—he is an incredibly skilled professional! The island is paradise in every corner, a place where we could recharge and forget daily stress. Now, we’re back in front of our screens, in the office, a bit sad to have left this dream place behind. The food was exquisite in every restaurant—the Italian, Spanish, and Japanese options were all delightful. The beachside seafood buffets, with grilled options under candlelight and live music, were magical. Desserts were a feast for the eyes and the palate, and the breakfast spread is truly a haven for anyone who loves to eat healthy, with a wealth of delicious, nutritious choices to start the day right. Thank you all for an unforgettable experience. We hope to return soon!
