Lake Avenue Hotel Kandy

We took a short break over the long weekend for a mix of family adventure and some official work, and our first stop was this beautiful hidden gem "Lake Avenue". Tucked away in a quiet corner of the city, it’s perfectly located, just a short walk to town and the Temple of the Tooth Relic, yet far enough to enjoy some peace and calm. The views of the lake and surrounding hills were absolutely lovely. Our room was spacious, spotless, and very comfortable. Room service was prompt, and every member of the team we met was warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive. Even though you are right in the heart of Kandy, the hotel feels like a tranquil escape. From the kind welcome at the front desk to the delicious meals with thoughtful presentation, everything about our stay felt just right. It’s truly a special place, and we would be more than happy to return. A special thank you to Salitha (GM), Alan, and the rest of the team for their heartfelt hospitality. We highly recommend this hidden gem to anyone looking for a comfortable and peaceful stay in Kandy.

100% recommended. Quiet place, very nice staff concerned about always giving a good service. The large room, the bathroom and a terrace to see the lake. Breakfast with fruit, bread and pastries, juice and to choose the modality of cooked eggs. The kitchen is seen, so you have access to the chef and that always gives peace of mind. At the door there is security guard with which vehicle you make the trips. It's worth the stay here. A 10 to all the staff.

Most importantly the staff at this hotel were friendly, kind and helpful to a fault - that was much appreciated. Everything else was disappointing. The website bills it as luxury which is not a word I would use to describe this hotel but the marketing around it is great and very slick and drew us in. We stayed in a family lake view room - it had a great kitchen area with a fantastic large fridge and sink but the child room is up a metal staircase and the ceiling is not even nearly full head height, I banged my head putting my children to bed 3 times. It's more like a loft mezzanine space for storage than a bedroom - our young children were fine there although we worried about the stairs and had to block them off but it would be uncomfortable with older children albeit less worrying re the stairs. There was card sellotaped to small windows either side of the beds in the loft space which was really shabby and I assume in response to a complaint about light shining on children as they slept but really I would think they could make that look less grubby in a so-called 'luxury' hotel. One of those window ledges was also coated in dust, just next to where a child sleeps. I was going to complain but I had already asked a lot of the staff (showing us other rooms etc) and generally made their lives quite difficult so I just cleaned it myself. This is part of a bigger problem in that the rooms are poorly designed, the furniture seems to be too big for the space and the sofa is directly underneath the TV. Of course we didn't visit Kandy to watch TV but it's just an odd design decision. The bathroom ceiling is quite low (because of the loft space above) no problem for our party but could be for a tall person, there were plenty of toiletries and soap but no soap dish which was another odd detail and the floor tiles are so slippery we had to guide our young children in and out of the bathroom each time they used it. The breakfast was not explained or detailed anywhere (it's a fruit platter and full English with your choice of eggs / pancakes or waffles for the children), the coffee was terrible but there is a coffee bar attached where you can buy a coffee (we didn't). Everything was undercooked so it was basically inedible on the first day including pancakes and waffles - the chef did come over and ask if everything was OK (another example of the great service) because I assume he saw how little we had eaten but we didn't get up the courage to say the issues until the next day, which is bad form from us. The next day's breakfast was much better, perhaps that was just an off day, but it was still very basic for what is marketed and priced as a luxury hotel. The location is very close to the Temple of the Tooth so that is great, easily walkable even with young children. However there is no traffic (including tuk tuk) access through the Temple area which means that getting back to the hotel with tired children means a much longer tuk tuk journey back round the f

Lake Avenue Hotel offers spacious family rooms with interesting duplex layouts and amazing views over the lake. Though we were only 2, the staff upgraded us for a better view The staff was kind and attentive, but the food was a little bit disappointing. They didn't really explain what was in the breakfast, but let me save you the hassle: it's a set menu. Sliced fruits had an onion after taste (cross contamination). Unsure about the papaya juice, but it tasted like processed juice. The chef did quality check, and we loved that he sent more bananacake as we said we liked it very much. Very attentive and caring! The coffee at the Café was well brewed and excellent, but not included in the breakfast. The hotel's location is perfect for exploring Kandy, with easy access to the Temple of the Tooth and other attractions. Overall, Lake Avenue Hotel is a good option for those looking for a convenient location and friendly staff, but there is room for improvement in the food department.

This hotel is very well located, right next to the Temple of the Tooth. The staff were warm and welcoming, the food was excellent. We had a choice of meals for the dinner and had a buffet breakfast. The triple room was well sized for our family of 4- we had a king size bed and a single bed, but I am sure we could have asked for 2 doubles instead. The beds were very comfortable. The pool in the basement was a bit cold but the family still made the most of it.

Check in was easy.The hotel room was clean, had a great view, safe and refrigerator. A few minute walk to the Temple of the Tooth. I can't recommend the restaurant. We arrived about 7:30, we were the only guests in the dinning area.We were seated and given menues. but our waiter did not come back to take our orders.After a long wait we awkwardly left. I don't think he was ever coming back. It was after dark and we really didn't feel like walking in an unfamiliar area to find food.
