Teufelskrallen Lodge

Wonderful location on margins of Kalahari desert. Make use of hiking trails of partner lodge 8km away, where we saw giraffes and other animals. Tented lodge accommodation wonderful, but it did get extremely cold at 3 degrees during the night, so minimally ask for an extra blanket depending on the weather forecast. Swimming pool should be closed to save water, extremely cold. Dinner was good quality cooking, but European-international food, not what we have come to Africa for. At least have an African first or main course!

If you stay in this lodge you will certainly remember it. The tents are built on stilts and located on the top of small dunes which gives you superb views on either side of your lodging. The “hotel” only have six tents so no over crowding! Some tents cater for 2 and are a bit smaller but have the advantage of having a terrace on either side (others seemed bigger and désigne to accommodate a small family). Out tents were very comfortable and had all the amenities needed for a one night stop. The shower and the toilet are located outside at the end of a “pontoon” so best to have a shower in the afternoon with daylight, the view from the Throne is impressive! There are only 2 minor things that some travellers might be aware of: it’s a bit of hike from the car to the lodge (up the dune) with the luggage can be tricky for some. The restaurant, pool and reception are located a short drive away from the tents and driving back in the dark might be an issue for some. Otherwise the restaurant offered nice menu and staff were friendly throughout.

Very clean, very friendly staff, great food. We enjoyed both the guided morning walk and the afternoon game drive with Martin, a friendly and competent guide that can explain you all ablit the animals and plants. The tents are located close to the top of a dune with a wide look over the Kalahari. Once or twice a couple of springboks passed by very close to the tent. You can also easily take a self-guided walk as there are no large predators.

Perhaps a more correct rating would be 3 stars, but based on the very extraordinary kind service and warm welcome, we enjoyed the stay and would be happy to visit again. It´s inconvenient the lodge is approx. 3 km from the tents where you sleep during night and that the place is quite close to a not very nice / interesting town. Also, that guards are present in the camp at night (that they are needed). But additionally on the good side; very fast internet, nice dinner and nice pool area." Im August 2025 verbrachten wir mit einer Gruppe von sieben Personen einige sehr schöne Tage in der Teufelskrallen Lodge. Die Lage mitten in der Kalahari ist beeindruckend – weite Landschaften, faszinierendes Licht und eine wohltuende Ruhe, die man selten findet. Die Zeltbungalows sind komfortabel und gepflegt, mit herrlichem Blick in die Natur. Sie bieten eine gelungene Mischung aus Nähe zur Umgebung und angenehmer Ausstattung. Besonders geschätzt haben wir die Stille und die Möglichkeit, wirklich abzuschalten. Das Team vor Ort hat unseren Aufenthalt sehr angenehm gestaltet. Antonio und Ricardo sowie das gesamte Personal waren freundlich, aufmerksam und stets hilfsbereit. Ihre entspannte und herzliche Art hat für eine angenehme Atmosphäre gesorgt. Auch das Essen war lecker und abwechslungsreich – besonders das Abendessen unter freiem Himmel war ein Highlight. Die Teufelskrallen Lodge ist eine empfehlenswerte Unterkunft für alle, die die Ruhe und Schönheit der Kalahari erleben möchten – mit gutem Service und herzlicher Gastfreundschaft.
