St Andrews Hotel and Spa

What a massive disappointment. On arrival it looks appealing. Check in went smoothly. Room massive. That’s where it stops. Carpets stained and dirty Tv remote was not working No towels Yea and coffee available but no kettle The cherry on the cake NO HOT WATER in the massive double shower. One shower water trickled out. Extremely disappointing

Not so good. Better care could be taken of the rooms - however poorly designed.

There was no hot water in this room in the morning.

Don't get fooled by "paitings" on walls even the artists would sign them lol. The curtains are dirty , shower clogged. The rooms are big though. Flies is dinning are , food bad and overpriced. At least staff great you friendly.The "spa" is non excitant as it's now in some back room with well used pamphlets. They should try and book everyone into lake view, maybe then you could have something positive. Who did the plumbing as most things are wrong. Past nights Prego roll had my stomach contract the whole night.

When I arrived, I was shocked to discover that the room I was checked into was dirty and the bed was not made up. This was unacceptable, as cleanliness is one of the most important factors for me when choosing a hotel

We were a group of 25 that was booked for accommodation. Arrived at 17:00 after an early flight and long day, upon being told our rooms aren’t ready as it needs to be sanitised. (Check in was at 14:00) We kept asking how long still. They kept postponing. We got our room keys at 21:00. Only to be disgusted by the standards of these rooms. The doors don’t lock. Bedding torn. Filthy carpets and curtains. No wi-fi. TV’s and aircons not working. This was for the majority of the groups rooms. Im curious how bad it must have been to have 25 rooms sanitised while a group of this size is waiting. It took them 10 hours to get the rooms ready. All of us are frequent travellers and have never experienced anything like this. We tried to find different accommodation but unfortunately everything was booked. The restaurant was horrible. Food not up to standard. Do not go to this hotel. It is NOT a 4-star. Not by a long shot. You will be very disappointed

4 Star rating “***”: Let me state upfront for the record, this is the worst accommodation in JHB that I have ever stayed in! Forget 4 star, lucky to be rated as 2 star. Whoever issued the 4 star ratings was either paid off or owns a share in the establishment. Arrived to a receptionist that could barely greet you. Should have known this was a bad start. No offer to assist with luggage despite no lift facilities. Room was basic but like the hotel, in a desperate need for a makeover and renovation. Carpets are dirty, instant coffee sachets and a bar fridge that had frozen over clearly indicating lack of cleaning and attention. No bath or hand towels in the room - but wait - the phones don’t work so you have to make your way back down the stairs to to unfriendly staff. Housekeeping took 15 minutes to bring the towels. Wait there’s more: no hot water. Back down to Ms Morbid to ask for the basics. Wait 30 minutes. Hold on the horror story is just warming up. Shower drain is blocked and just fills up with water. Back downstairs to this time discuss with the manager who is clearly not concerned with the feedback and arranges in house plumbers (a sign that this is a common situation). Plumbers do their thing and the entire room is filled with the stench of foul and insipid water for the rest of the evening. Asked the manager for the early cancellation policy details but he had no idea what this entailed. My 3 night stay ended up being a single night which I would have changed if it wasn’t after hours. Ended up staying at friends for the remainder of my trip and wasn’t even going to try my luck for breakfast after reading the other reviews on the online platforms. Please I urge you to reconsider this venue for your trips! Don’t waste your time and money. The hotel doesn’t care for their guests. The facilities are disgusting. The choice is yours !!

Nice location. Rooms nice size and clean. Reception and cleaning staff friendly. The restaurant is 'ok' but staff not well trained. The linen is torn and old and there was a big hole in the curtain. All the taps work "EXACTLY the wrong way round, which is really confusing and you can't clean your teeth in the basin as there is no room between the tap and the plub.?? Last night no hot water in the bath. At breakfast we ordered an English Breakfast, and were told they had 'run out of sausages'. Then we asked for toast and they came back and told us they had run out of brown bread!! This hotel used to be a real little gem in its time, as the surrounds are really lovelt, but unfortunately is is fast going downhill. They won't see us again. A Great pity.

The rooms were very spacious and beds comfortable and shower was good. Unfortunately out of the two sinks one was leaking and there was lack of toilet paper and soap in the rooms, Although when asked it was brought to us fairly promptly. However I do feel that the bear necessities should already be in the room. The hotel was a little understaffed so some food orders took a while, this could be due to covid.
