The Old Wainhouse

WE ate at the Old Wainhouse Inn five times during our week-long holiday in North Cornwall and every plateful was a delight. This pub set back off the A39 Atlantic Highway offers a warm welcome and a wonderful menu. Our meals included everything from chicken and grilled fish to lamb's liver and bacon, ribs and home-made fish pie. However, there has to be one word of warning. Portion sizes are big. We booked a table from their Sunday carvery which offers a portion and price guide of one, two, three or four slices of the meat of your choice. I was tempted by four slices but luckily opted for only three. I chose venison, pork and lamb and was lucky to finish it all. In fact I was given so much to eat that I had to opt out of dessert. My wife slogged her way through just two slices and also didn't have a dessert...and I still wasn't really hungry by the time I got up the next day for breakfast! The atmosphere of the pub is very good with tables scattered through several rooms while their beer -- I had Proper Job and Legend -- was very well kept. All in all I have no hesitation in recommending anyone to come here and give the menu and beer a try.

What a lovely welcome we received when we arrived. The room was warm and comfortable with all we needed for weekend break. Our dog was also well looked after. What can I say about the meals. Absolutely gorgeous.

Interesting lunch stop with lots of parking. Lovely Ploughmans Lunch with three cheeses, good ham, and three pickles. Very good home made Hunters Chicken. Great pint of Harveys Bitter. Lunch with two drinks a reasonable £43.90. Good service. Not fast food but worth the wait. Would recommend this pub as a stop for a good lunch.

We had a lovely evening meal here last night. Great service friendly informative and polite. Good delicious home cooked food with great choice followed by a bakewell tart (the best I've eaten) and clotted cream. The pub was full of locals and visitors, plenty of parking, seating inside or out and a laid back chilled vibe. Thank you.

We visited the Old Wainhouse Inn twice in the course of a week staying in a nearby cottage. On the Sunday we sampled the carvery which continues into the evening. There was a good choice of meats and a fine selection of vegetables. The following Wednesday evening we returned for another meal. We were impressed with the quality and the presentation of the meals. The staff are friendly and helpful.

My wife and I went for a lunchtime meal to this lovely friendly Inn. We had freshly cooked meals, none of the usual microwave frozen pack meals. It was a beautiful meal with excellent service. I would thoroughly recommend this pub on the A39 in North Cornwall.

We stayed 3 nights, and can honestly say hospitality great, food great, staff excellent, a friendly atmosphere food all locally sourced and exceptional value would have no hesitation in booking to stay again,thanks Sue and staff

We try and visit here for a meal at least once whenever we visit Cornwall. We love the atmosphere of a proper pub, with locals at the bar. The three ladies working behind the bar and serving were really friendly and welcoming, I can’t praise them enough! The food was great value for money, large portions and really well cooked. Definitely one of the best pubs in Cornwall.

We’ve eaten at the pub a few times over the years during our annual visit to Cornwall but this year we decided just to get a takeaway and eat in our self accommodation. Very friendly staff and reasonably priced menu however the food wasn’t particularly appetising and the chips were rather cold and overcooked Probably just a bad day in the kitchen as we’ve always had great meals here otherwise.
