Amara Cay Resort

Ameracay is a very nice resort. It's not too far and easily accessible. It gas a nice tiki brand beach as well as a very nice courtyard with game areas and firepits. The resort is in an area that has iguanas. These are harmless if left alone. Make sure yiu balcony door is shut so a curious iguana does not visit. You also should ve aware that in case of a cold snap, iguanas fall from trees. As long as they don't hit you in the head again they are harmless. Visited the outside bar fi a sandwich. Everything in the Keys cost more so prices are moderate. We shared a sandwich with no issues. The lobby area is very nice with suspended swinging chairs. Decorations are "islandish" which is appropriate. There is a selfie wall which has keys mounted. There is also a wall mounted magnetic Scrapple game. There are nice restaurants within walking distance. Both Midway and Lazy Boys were busy. If you go out for dinner, expect moderate wait. Staff was exceptionally nice and helpful. The resort has a very snLl gift shop. Not much for men unless you need a bathing suit. The only problem was the entire area was having water issues. There was no hot water in the room. I would stay again. It's about half the cost of staying in Key West. There are places very close by if you want to plY in, on, or under the water. It may be possible to book a ride out to Alligator Reef Lighthouse via a service near by. Lots of places to hop on a fishing boat. The water off Islamadora is a nationally protected coral reef. Make sure you know what you can and can't do on the reef. The resort does not allow drone flying on property. You might be able to fly from a nearby bridge. I will probably visit again.

The property is in a great location; the views are unmatched. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. The room was spacious, and the bed was comfy. What keeps this property from being a resort is the housekeeping schedule and not letting guests know that there will be no housekeeping, and no refills on things like toilet paper and coffee, and your garbage would not be emptied. We arrived on Monday, and we drank the K-cups on Tuesday before heading out for the day. By Wednesday, when we had not seen any housekeeping service. I reached out to guest services via text about 9:30am and was told by Christina that since we were only staying 4 nights, we would not receive housekeeping services. I was disappointed and was not informed of this policy at check-in or at the time of booking on *******. I then went to the lobby to find coffee, while there I stopped at the front desk and was told I could have a "reset" of towels, toilet paper, coffee, garbage pick-up etc. but not a full service. Perfect, I thought. We went on with our day and I returned to the room a couple of times and still nothing. Finally, we had run out of Kleenex that we were using as toilet paper, so I reached out again to see if we could at least get some toilet paper. By this time, it is almost 6pm. Finally, someone brings us a single roll of toilet paper and a plastic bag with 4 towels in it. That was the extent of housekeeping that we received. Our garbage was never emptied our entire stay.

The property was very nicely landscaped and the pool and beach areas had comfortable furniture and were very inviting. The chickee huts provided nice shade. There is a seawall on the beach that separates the sand and water areas. There were pretty fire pits and music in the courtyard area which also was a nice feature. I was disappointed in our room location, view and the dampness in our room. My booking did not give a good description of the view which was of a parking lot. In addition we received a charge to our room that was not ours. Luckily we checked out in person and caught it. The staff handled it nicely.

Came to the property at 11 AM knew that it was too early to check in but showed up at the front desk. Let them know that we’re here, and we got our wristband. Britney at the front desk said they would call us when the rooms were ready. We had two rooms booked both with two queen beds because we were traveling with kids around 3 o’clock, I received the phone call saying that they oversold the hotel and they had no rooms for us available for us and that they have to move us to a sister property. No compensation was offered not even a complimentary breakfast. We spent 2 hours going from hotel to hotel. We went to the other property in which when we got to the rooms, it was one bed with no couch or anything else for the kids so we had and switch rooms again. We were traveling as a family and had to stay in different buildings across the resort from each other. We were not able to spend the time that we originally wanted to spend together. I would never stay at this hotel again!!! be advised!!

Everything is really great here. Nice property. Nice pool. Great location for hitting all of the keys. Tiki bar staff could stand to liven up a bit. Pretty glum crew for working with that view.
