Hotel Isla del Sol

The Hotel is amazing in general! Good Rooms, very clean, own beach and Pool with a very very cool Bar. The Barkeeper Rafael is amazing, super friendly, always happy to make drinks and always with a smile. His drinks are amazing!! The staff in general is super nice, helpful and the energy is more like we are friends than staff and guest and i really love that. Special thanks to Erlin as well and the whole staff. Amazing stay, we felt like in paradise to be honest!!

We had a day trip to the Islas del Rosario (booking a private boat) and ended up having lunch at the hotel. First of all, it is not a nice hotel. Pool, beach, etc. are very average. It really looks like a tourist trap! Second of all, when we arrived at Isla del Sol, a supposedly “manager” told us that we had to pay the full day at the hotel to get access to the restaurant ... well, after a call with our private boat company, he told us “ok, you can come for lunch” and basically propose the most expensive meal they have (I guess to compensate his loss of us not staying for the day). Third of all, after having asked for their menu (no way I am following this guy’s advice in terms of food, and he was pretty mad about not selling is bad expensive fish), we waited 1h to get served while the hotel was almost empty (I suspect they did it on purpose), and got TERRIBLE food on the table... Lastly, I asked the bill and the supposedly “waiter” who was speaking English dropped me a price out of the blue... After asking him that I wanted a receipt, he told me “I speak little English” and went to see his supposedly “manager” ... after another wait of 20min, the supposedly “manager” came to explain the price and as if by magic the price was lower than the first one ... Long story short, the food is BAD, the staff members are a bunch of INCOMPETENTS, trying to rob you, and the hotel is NOT EVEN GOOD.

I would 100% recommend this hotel. The staff are absolutely incredible and make the place exceptional. The welcome watermelon popsicle was such a lovely welcome. The food was very good, generous portions, lots of options on the menu, and the staff were always happy to accommodate. The chef is excellent, focused on quality/cleanliness/hygiene, and makes terrific pancakes in the morning. The rooms are very comfortable and the shampoo/soap provided is very nice. The beach is beautiful, but you may want to bring water shoes, as there is some coral on the way in. I would also bring bug repellent because unless there is a strong breeze, the sandflies bite. I would definitely go back. Ideal for families.

We booked a superior bungalow with sea view for 2 nights at a cost of £300 pn, definitely not worth the money. We couldn’t use the terrace as it was too windy, the wind picks up every afternoon. Only allowed 1 beach towel which was old and small. Only allowed 1 bath towel! The only person who can speak English is the lady on reception who leaves later in the afternoon so any issues you may have are unable to be resolved. We were unable to buy a glass of red wine as there were no bottles already open! The quality of breakfast is very basic and items aren’t replenished. The lunch and evening meal are equally bad and repetitive. You have to preorder each meal earlier on the day. It’s so bad I ended up having chicken every lunch and every evening. Only free drinks are soft drinks at meal times.

Great place to stay at for a few days. Nice clean bungalows with beautiful view of the sea. Clean and cute beach with great food and drinks. The wifi was reliable and the staff was also very friendly. The hotel offers nice day trips around the island for snorkeling and diving.

Pleasant enough but I wouldn’t go out of my way to stay here again. The pool is lovely and the tiny enclosed beach was nice to rinse off. We stayed in a family room which was a good size. The beach lounges get busy with day trippers so we missed out on the first day. They are also very uncomfortable as they don’t have cushions. The activities could have been better coordinated by a central person. Instead they were arranged by different people who we aid directly. We were never quite sure what they involved, but were fun enough in the end. A leaflet or something which explains the prices and describes what you’re going to do would benefit future visitors. We didn’t bring much cash - we could pay for the massage by card, but for some reason not other activities. Inconvenient. We wanted to rent kayaks but they don’t have any. The massage was hit and miss - one of us had ca good experience, the other was disappointing (despite asking for strong pressure clearly in Spanish it was very gentle). They also used way too much oil. The local reef close to the beach is ok but nothing special. All in all Isla Grande was not a highlight of our otherwise great trip to Colombia
