I booked this one thinking it was a place I'd stayed at before but I got that wrong and as it turned out that was a reasonably lucky break. We got there about 7pm. Leave earlier would be my advice. The road from Glen Innes to Inverell is easy enough but there were lots of kangaroos and wallabies to worry about in the dusk. When I went into the reception, the lovely lady have me the key and told me the restaurant was open till about 7.30 so if we wanted to eat, go in. As it happened they were still serving meals after 9pm. The great surprise is that it's a really good restaurant with excellent steaks, the lamb shanks were massive. In fact all portions were huge. Prices were from high $20s to high $30s and there were lobster feasts on special for $100. My partner couldn't finish his (I squeezed it in). Quality steaks in a surf and turf at $39 each. We got one with salad and chips and one with be and chips. Both options were lovely. All very "Aussie" food. I finished with a couple of shots of Glenfiddich at $7 per shot which is a great price and we had a bottle of Jacobs Creek Shiraz for $26. The beds were very comfortable and the place really clean with plenty of towels and quick, plentiful hot water so the shower was great. All the usual things in a motel room - cups, glasses, microwave, kettle, iron etc and a few plates and such. Tea, instant coffee and such with real (not UHT) milk given to you at reception on check in. Motels are all very similar really but this has the restaurant which made things easy and was such a good surprise. The feature brick walls in the rooms made us laugh. Someone, one time, looked at that brick and selected it from all the others. They certainly wanted them to be a "feature" and that's for sure. Tariff was $140 for the night. And I should add that the wait staff in the restaurant were lovely too.
