Maalaea village is a gem with its central location and its fantastic trade winds. They provide a cooling breeze that keeps the temperatures just right. This condo has what you come to Maui for. Twenty feet from the water. In our opinion we have the best Maui location on Maui(peaceful, central, uncrowded and non 'touristy' Maalaea), the best building in Maalaea - Kanai a Nalu (first one on the 4 mile beach) and about the best unit (401) in Kanai a Nalu (oceanfront corner - fantastic view from every window). Fall asleep to the gentle sound of the surf outside your bedroom window and wake to a beautiful Maui sunrise across the bay over magnificent 10,000 foot Haleakala. Eat breakfast on your lanai while you watch whales and surfers on the bay below you. Unobstructed views ( the best in Maalaea) from every window - even the kitchen looks to the West Maui Mountains. In the picture section the 2nd or 3rd picture there is a YouTube “video” walk through. Both bedrooms and the living room have fantastic views but also complete privacy (We never close the curtains). Kitchen is remodeled and fully equipped. Island style furniture throughout including a new Beauty-rest king size bed, very comfortable tropic style living room set , free wireless DSL, side by side fridge with filtered water/ice in door, Air Conditioning in living room, washer -dryer. Both bathrooms recently updated with new fixtures, tile, granite, and real stone vessel sinks. We just tore up the carpet and installed beautiful mango wood floor in living room and master bedroom. We added 50 inch flat screen ROKU UHD smart TVs in the living room and Master Bedroom. Beautiful new upholstery on living room furniture is too new to show up on video but we do have pictures. Living area has a relaxing tropical ambiance with much original artwork.Maalaea and Kanai a Nalu: Maalaea is a small village that is the best of both worlds. We are far enough away from the traffic and 'shoulder to shoulder' tourist areas that you can truly relax and appreciate what Maui living is really about. Yet we are the most central spot on the island for easy access to all that Maui has to offer. Our Kanai-a-Nalu condo complex is a four-story, U-shaped building with a beautiful courtyard that is open to the ocean. It shelters a wonderful tile swimming pool on the ocean's edge. You may decide to walk down to Maalaea Harbor to take a whale watching, snorkeling, fishing, or sunset dinner cruise. The harbor area also boasts the newly constructed Maui Ocean Center, a world-class marine aquarium considered to be the best in the Islands. It also offers several fine ocean view restaurants, interesting shops, and places to buy fixings for a quick meal 'at home'.Cleaning and Taxes:Our cleaning costs have risen dramatically due to labor cost and extra Covid precautions. It has gone from $145 to $240. Covid has also affected taxes. The State of Hawaii lost quite a bit of revenue during Covid and no longer shares their state tax with Maui County so Maui has imposed its own 3% tax which bring the total tax to 17.25%. (Hawaii tourist tax 10.25%, Maui tourist tax 3%, “Excise” tax 4%) I don’t like it but we do need to collect it. Due to storm wave activity our direct beach access was damaged and rebuilt but it was damaged again. You will see pictures of our beach out front before the storm damage. The beach was always there but depending on season and storms it grew or shrank. At this time the beach starts not right out front but at the end of our property. We still access the beach from our oceanfront lawn but now enter at the far end to the left as you face the ocean. You do need to step over a short (about 2 foot) “fence” and down onto the beach. See the pictures of beach access on this site. We are working on a more permanent solution but not sure when that will happen. This condo is centrally located to numerous golf courses all provided to you upon reservation.Not only is Ma'alaea a central location to all the golf courses, it's a small village on a dead-end road that features a 5-mile white sandy beach at one end and a small harbor with boats to take you snorkeling, whale watching, on sunset cruises or deep sea fishing at the other end. There's no highway noise, strip malls or traffic on our street....just the residents who live here and the guests visiting.The whales are a special treat. Relaxing on the lanai during the months of November through April, you will be entertained by the humpback whales who have returned to Maui from summering in Alaska. For the last 2 years we have all watched a mother give birth to a calf and then watch as she spends the rest of the season teaching her calf how to swim, breech and have fun. All this visible right from the lanai.Year-round there are turtles bobbing their heads just before sunrise and you'll also see the occasional endangered monk seal sunning on the rocks in front of the condo.This condo is fully equipped with beach chairs and towels, books to read on the beach, new comfortable king bed, fully equipped kitchen, a panoramic view of the ocean in front of you with Haleakala (our volcano) in the background. Description of CondoOur beautifully decorated one bedroom/one bath oceanfront condominium is at Maalaea Kai in beautiful Maalaea Maui. We are always working to keep our condo updated and as nice as we can. In 2017, we installed beautiful bamboo flooring in the living room, kitchen, and hallway. In 2019, we installed new carpet in the bedroom.The entire condo is air conditioned! Our unit differs from most condominiums in Maui in that the building is on a cul-de-sac so there is little vehicular traffic. Also, unlike most condos, you can hear the ocean from the bedroom as well as the living room. Because we are a corner unit, our bedroom has windows on two walls and one of them faces the ocean! We are also unique in that our plush bed and bedding are of the highest quality we could buy. You will think you're staying at a 5 Star hotel!*Please note that until about early December, our building is being painted. The lanais have all been done, so our beautiful views of the ocean are not being affected. You may see some scaffolding around the building and hear some noise from a generator or power washing. But it shouldn’t be for long durations. The painting is looking really beautiful.Living RoomOur building is designed in a way that some of the condos, while not being end units, are still corner units, which we like because the bedroom and the living room have windows on two sides. Being a corner unit, there is a side window, in addition to the sliding glass door, that gives you more light and airflow. The living room has new bamboo floors, a sleeper sofa, which sleeps two, and a love seat. (Knowing that sleeper sofas aren't as comfortable as regular beds, we have a memory foam topper to put on top of the mattress so its nice and comfy.) There is a dining table with four chairs. Our entertainment system includes a 40' flat screen TV, a DVD/Blu-ray player, and a CD player. You can also connect your iPhone to play your own music. We have a large selection of movies on DVD. We have free wifi and free long distance to the U.S. mainland and Canada.BedroomOur bedroom has new plush carpeting, designer drapes, and a king-size bed (two extra-long twins connected together in a king-size frame so you are less apt to feel your companion moving in the middle of the night). We are very particular about the bed we sleep in and our comfort is as important to us as it is to you. Our mattresses are Simmons Beautyrest Euro Plush Pillowtops. You will love them! We also have a 4” gel memory foam topper and a mattress pad on top of the mattresses. The sheets are buttery soft and two of the four king pillows are 100% down and two are very soft poly-fill for those who are allergic to down. We bought the best pillows we could find! The designer duvet is elegant and soft. You will be in total comfort while falling asleep to the blissful sound of the ocean! KitchenOur kitchen has a new stove/cook-top and microwave and is fully stocked with everything you could want, including beautiful Hawaiian china, wine glasses, a blender, a toaster, an oven, a refrigerator, a rice cooker, a crockpot, and all the pots and pans you would need. BathroomThe bathroom has a nice tub/shower combination. We put in a new mosaic tile floor and a beautiful new vanity and matching mirror. It has king-sized beds in both bedrooms, HDTVs everywhere, and a fully stocked kitchen including toaster/blender/coffeemaker, etc, paper products, spices, and more.The inside is peaceful and perfect, but the outside is unbelievable. The pictures were all taken by us, but we frequently hear from guests that they don't do the place justice. Those taken from above (e.g. views of the pool) were really taken from our Lanai and those on the beach were really taken from right in front of the condo!We have our own high-speed (100mbps) internet and encrypted wifi or spend your time lounging around the heated pool. We have lots of play toys for your use including beach chairs & towels, sand toys, a cooler, even some snorkeling gear.The Kanai A Nalu condo complex means 'gentle surf' in Hawaiian.
