The facility is as beautiful as the pictures. Outside there are men checking under cars with mirrors as if to be looking for bombs. You have to do an airport type security check while outside before you go in. None of this is why I only am giving this place a 1 out of 5. The low rating is because they served me spoiled food which gave my severe food poisoning. I was trying a local Nigeria dish of okra stew with goal meat and garri. The garri had bubble throughout it and I assumed it was normal as I never had it. Plus it was extremely hot. The stew had a rancid fish smell. I did not eat a lot but it was enough for me to feel like I had bugs crawling in my bowels for days. Along with severe diarrhea and nausea. Had I ate more than a bite of each, I would have vomitted. This all happened on my March 11th-13th stay. I ended up coming back for March 17 to the 18th. We only came back as some of our other alternative places to stay were far worse. During this stay I did not have any meal issues but stayed away from the local food. Side note: I had someone from Nigeria cook me some fresh soup and garri and they were confused why I said what I tasted before was sour/tangy. They said that was not fresh garri. On 17th I was told I could either pay for my charges as they come or charge to the room. I made the mistake of saying charge to the room. The man behind the desk had me sign a paper saying I would be charged the same amount I was charged for my 1 night stay as a hold for my charges. The next day at check out they claimed the system was down and did not give me or email me a receipt. Then they charged me for my room charges on top of the double room charge. Now they are saying they have no record of a double charge. I clearly have proof my credit card was charged twice. It has been almost 2 weeks. I have a dispute open with my credit card company and the hotel but no resolution yet. On another note, we had 3 adults and they only wanted us to have 1 key card. My husband asked for a 2nd one and they only gave him one to let him in the room so when he went to the gym it didn't work and he got locked in a room outside of the gym as they have scanners on almost every door. My son got locked out of the room by the elevator. It was difficult to get towels at times. They also won't let you take up your luggage, which can be nice but we had a very long flight and just wanted to get showered and changed and had to wait for the staff to bring up our luggage. Which we then felt obligated to give a tip each time as well but we learned from some locals that you do not have to give tips even though we did. It was a bad experience and it did not feel nor appear as luxurious as the pictures compared to amenities in the US.
