Has the makings, probably has been like this for the last ten years , but obviously a business question mark . Has all the makings of what could be , but lacks the standard in a decent ablution block , otherwise has all what it takes and more. Pub, restaurant,pool, playground and large sites . No turf for tents though . Who knows , the rates are cheap , and beats the poor beachside campsite opposition

The accommodation we stayed in was of a really good size. It was a 3 bedroomed house but we had use of only one bedroom (the others were locked which is fair enough as we were just 2 guests). The bedroom was comfortable, lounge was large and dining table large. Lots of amenities/facilities for a self catering stay. There is an on site restaurant and bottle shop. The food at the restaurant was excellent!

Our two families camped in a camper trailer and caravan, this area was essentially a gravel pit, not a “pretty” place to stay by any means. The gravel pads made it almost impossible to hammer in the tent pegs. The amenities were just a donga, filled with birds and bugs and we’re awfully maintained over the long weekend because the staff weren’t there. Even once staff returned on the Tuesday we asked for the toilets to be cleaned and they said “they get cleaned on a Monday, it’s Tuesday…” We were baffled, they clearly had no plans to tend to the facilities that week, so we just asked for the toilet paper and hand towel to be topped up in the ladies as there hadn’t been any for days, this was done Tuesday afternoon. When we checked out Wednesday morning the toilets were still filthy, bins hadn’t been emptied, and there was bird poo everywhere. There wasn't anywhere to sit out of the weather when it was raining apart from in your caravan/camper, the camp kitchen didn’t have a table and chairs (and was again covered in bird poo), no indoor recreation room or anything, so the kids got a bit of cabin fever. We were there for 4 nights total, everyone else came and went overnight, clearly just using it as a stopover to get somewhere else. Not a very nice place to stay, we won’t be rushing back. It’s a shame because Hopetoun is lovely, just wish both caravan parks actually cared about the experiences of their guests!

Tired after a full days driving we arrived at the motel only to be told that our booking was cancelled. The manager “Sue” argued with us for an hour insisting there was no record of our booking despite referring her to our email booking confirmation. We were finally allocated a cabin which in the interest of good customer service could have been allocated to us within minutes of our arrival. Unfortunately our disappointment didn’t stop there. Our bathroom had a leaking shower wihich was rotting the timber skirting and carpet. This created a musty smell which permeated through the cabin forcing us to sleep with all the windows open. This by far was the worst accomodation experience during our 4 week road trip.

For a $45 Scotch filet, plus $3 extra for garlic sauce and more for extra prawns, I expect a better quality. If the pizza was really good, the fish and steak were overcooked and after waiting more than an hour to be served, we've been told unpolitly and aggressively by the old man to go somewhere else if we're not happy.
