King Minos Retreat Resort & Spa

Can’t fault hotel. Lovely modern spacious bedroom overlooking the sea. Food is good quality. We went half board. We’re youthful mid sixties. Beach opposite is ok though sunloungers twice the price of most other places. Pool area top class with some entertainment. The saxophonist was a cool touchFound a great beach a bus ride away. Location is good- about a twenty minute walk from hersonisis centre. Good value compared with other 5* hotels. Free spa experience Not for young children I suggest but plenty of things to occupy them off the main road You’d be pushed to find this value of a 5* hotel in Crete. I recommend without hesitation.

After submitting a review yesterday, Maria from guest relations contacted us in order to try & resolve some of our issues. She arranged for us to be moved to another room with a hot tub,which we can use,whereas the pool we had ,we could not as it was freezing . She also booked the a la carte restaurant for our anniversary tomorrow, with a few amendments, free of charge, which is greatly appreciated. Also free snacks & able to keep our room on day of departure as we don't leave till late evening. We did not submit review looking for those things, but are very appreciative she reached out to us. As I previously said, the hotel is lovely, spotlessly clean in all areas. I shall add a further review when our holiday is over....

We are still here at the moment, chose this hotel as we are celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary on the 27th & wanted somewhere nice that we hadn't been to before. We are unfortunately, rather disappointed. The hotel itself is spotless ,very clean in all areas, beds are very comfortable & majority of staff are pleasant,just not very chatty. Food is the main let down,I know a lot of reviews mentioned food not being very hot, but thought it may be OK, but no, every item we have had has been cold or lukewarm. We have ended up eating out at lunchtime to feel satisfied. We had hoped to dine in the a la carte restaurant on our anniversary, but after asking to see the menu, it just doesn't have much choice ,so we will find somewhere else to go. We are not old, but didn't want a crazy noisy place , but the entertainment is not entertaining, (elevator music or a noisy dj),around only 1 pretty small bar for the whole complex is strange,we thought it would be a lot bigger when there are over 200 rooms. We splashed out on a room with private pool, but it is freezing, I cannot get in it, wish we'd booked a hot tub now,you live & learn! The very cloudy weather can't be helped! Overall, Crete is just not for us,so disappointed, what was to be such a special holiday, and one we thought we had researched well,is in fact a let down.

1 Year Wedding Anniversary. We started in a room with an infinity pool, but due to some issue with the pool, we contacted reception who not only offered us a new room, they gave is a surprise upgrade! All staff are amazing and very hospitable. The restaurant staff were helpful (shout out to Dimi for supply my husband with local honey when asked), my only criticism is the lack of vegetarian options besides vegetables. I understand this only affects the select few vegetarians/vegans but 10 days of aubergine and courgette can get a bit dull.
