Scandic Paarsi, Helsinki. 1. Hotel is novel- reserved (not gaudy) circus decor theme but looking tired around the edges, doors, wallpaper, light switches, rugs…needs investment and refurbishing. Rugs need vacuuming. 2. It’s a Gloomy room due to the dark decor. It’s a “superior plus room”. These types of room might have a kitchenette, or a sauna, or neither. Hotel person we discussed this with was friendly but vague about what a guest might actually receive as a room upon arrival. Quite spacious to be fair, but just frustrating as nothing to suggest anything about what your room might be on the website. Luck of the circus! 3. The air conditioner did not work. Reported it on day 1 and on 2 more occasions during our 8-night stay, also asked for an extra fan, a/c still not fixed by the time we left, nor did any extra fan arrive. 4. Sofa bed not made-up for my son upon arrival, but rectified quickly. Highlights poor attention to detail throughout the stay. 5. HUGE square sink. Why? To be fair it was handy for hand washing clothes- must be c.20 litres in volume, but I’m not convinced of its usability...unless you leave the tap running to wash/ shave...but there's a sign saying 'turn off taps when brushing teeth', but you need c.10L of water to wash/ shave...so...smaller sinks maybe an idea? 6. WIN! Loads of bathroom space for 3 people’s wash bags at last. Makes a positive change to hotel in Sweden! Unsure re: tatty plastic orchid in the corner, however. 7. Sticky-strips in the shower where the soap dispenser fell off. Such a minor repair/ tidy up…why not just fix it? The room was cleaned before we occupied it, so I'm, assuming a cleaner would have noticed and reported it..? 8. Clean the windows. Seriously. They need to clean the windows. 9. TV is flatscreen but probably 1st or 2nd generation. Takes a while to warm up, no “air cast” option so it’s Finnish TV for you. Some english channels with subtitles but usual cable selection of c.5 shows on a loop. Has HDMI socket so maybe able to plug something in? 10. It's a 4-Star hotel but from c.15 years ago…no built-in USB charging ports for example. And the A/c didn't work. 11. Don’t drop anything under the beds or move the table…you might find dust, debris and lunch remains from last week (month?) that you didn't want to see. This is 4-Star, remember, not a 3-star motel. 12. Breakfast buffet is very good- same choices every day but it’s a HUGE selection to be fair. Typical 5/10 Scandinavian coffee. Take your own coffee. Cutlery- choose wisely as it’s apparent there is no soaking regime. Other than that, this is the besty part of the hotel/ stay. 13. Staff. Breakfast and cleaning staff are very polite, helpful, and friendly. Reception staff are polite and friendly but ultimately unhelpful. See 3, above. On last day we asked about booking a taxi- hotel obliged but it seemed to be an inordinately large effort for them. Similar reception staff 'mood' in Sweden. Very different from Ital
