Brookvale House Balingup

We didn't actually get to stay at the property despite booking and paying 6 MONTHS in advance. Three nights before our scheduled trip, we received a text from the owner saying *********** double booked the place. They asked to talk to us over the phone. They said they found us a "high quality alternative accommodation", which cost MORE than what we paid but they will cover the gap. What they didn't tell us, which would have been a complete deal breaker, was that IT WAS SOMEONE's HOME! As soon as we walked in, we realised it was someone's home. There were jackets and shoes at the entrance, food in the fridge, personal belongs in wardrobes, and even used toothbrushes next to the bathroom sink. We also suspect a pet normally lives in the property. We felt like INTRUDERS and felt DISGUSTED having to touch anything in the property. There was also no WiFi. We paid for a weekend getaway and ended up house siting a stranger's home. We would have rated 0 star if we could because it was NOT an acceptable alternative. Had they told us the alternative was someone's home, we would have questioned why they decided to move us instead of the other party especially when we BOOKED and PAID 6 MONTHS in advance. We would have much rather cancelled our trip than having it ruined by staying in a stranger's home. They made us felt that they did us a favour by paying more to house us for the night, but I would never have paid to house sit let alone paying that much! Also, we frequently travel domestically and internationally always using ***********, we did not think double booking could happen on ***********. We actually drove past Brookvale House Balingup to check the place out. There seemed to be a group of people gathering outside the main house. Did *********** really double booked or was there another reason why we were moved elsewhere? I am posting this review here because *********** said the review did not meet their guidelines as we did not stay at the property THAT WE BOOKED AND PAID. I think potential travellers considering Brookvale House Balingup should be aware what could actually happen to them that happened to us and ruined our weekend getaway.
