Battlesteads

Comfortable room, nice selction of toiletries with pleasant scent. lovely food. Battlesteads was able to accommodate a pet dog ( pet pack also included) . Great selection for brealfast and tasty Ringtons coffee. This was a birthday break so only one night stay , Booked bed and breakfast, decided to add evening meal. The village of Wark is lovely to walk around, cross over bridge to football field one way and dog walk the other, weather helped make the stay as it was warm Autumn sunshine. Saw Grey Heron by the riverbank. Would recommend and would go again.

A lovely stay in a beautiful part of the world. We stayed in one of the accessible rooms, so can’t comment on the other accommodation, but our room was clean, if a little dated. The real positives were the staff, genuinely lovely and welcoming – along with excellent food and a great selection of local beers on tap. We also enjoyed chatting with some fellow guests who were repeat visitors, which says a lot about the place. Overall, a relaxed and friendly hotel in a fantastic location, and somewhere we’d be happy to return to.

We had a warm welcome on a very rainy February day. Our room was warm and comfortable. The food in the restaurant was really good. The weather stopped us visiting the Observatory, which was a shame. We will definitely visit again at a different time of year, as the hotel is well placed to visit places of interest.

We had a disabled room (which i asked for) room had a really bad smell of bleach to the point off we had to leave to window open all night. Also we had friends staying at the same time and they had a full fruit bowl we had nothing in our room.This is our second time staying here and i have to stay the quality had dropped and i dont think i would stay here for the a third time ( also the breakfast has declined in quality also).

Good hotel lacking atmosphere We've stayed here a couple of times before and were looking forward to another trip. The hotel hasn't changed much in recent years and unfortunately it's starting to feel like it needs a bit of a freshen up. Our room had a stale smell when we arrived (it needed to be aired) and the carpets were a bit grubby throughout the upstairs. Staff were helpful enough but not particularly friendly, and overall the atmosphere was lacking. Dinner was good but there is limited choice if you're staying more than a couple of nights. The breakfast menu options were good. The onsite EV charger is a real bonus but note that it is now pay-to-charge. Overall a decent place to stay but lacking the charm and friendliness it once had.

A last-minute decision for us to stay having booked to eat in the restaurant and we weren't disappointed. Our room was spotlessly clean and more spacious than expected. We needed to look for someone in order to check in but in all other respects the staff were very welcoming and attentive.

Wonderful stay for one night. Beautiful village and lots of walking and lots to do. Wonderful room amenities. Thank you for a great stay.

Very nice hotel Had a lovely one night stay, comfortable room and very nice bar with very friendly staff and a resident Cat :) . Food was very good and fantastic breakfast options. They also have an observatory at the back of the hotel if you want to experience Dark Sky astronomy, unfortunately cloud cover on our stay but would certainly go back.
