Grootbos Private Nature Reserve

Everything about Grootbos is pure perfection! Your adventure starts with a guide meeting you as you enter and sit down to plan your experiences, which we would encourage you to do: nature walks, cave exploring, fat biking, horseback riding, plant a tree and so much more to connect with the environment! After all your adventures relax in your tranquil and majestic villa, which overlooks the valley of fynbos, which alone is reason to go on one of the numerous nature walks (distances vary). The rooms are spacious that account for every attribute of luxury and relaxation that a person/couple requires. There is a tv, but shame to watch that versus the buoying an outdoor shower and taking in the scenery. With all this, the food at each meal Coupled with the local and hospitable staff makes every sitting special. chef Ben’s selections vary and love the fact that the menu is written for a vegan, BUT has every protein option that a meat eater would like to enjoy. Paired with varying wine selections makes every meal scrumptious. Before going, view the website and look at the suggested activities for four days, which is the right amount of time; although, we could have stayed a few more days to just relax. We were celebrating our anniversary and the staff created an experience that we will never forget and for that we will always be thankful! Our first trip to Grootbos will definitely not be our last! Oh! Did I mention their Foundation that aids to preserve the local flora & fauna as well as deepen the strength of the community in ways that will last for generations!!

May be one of my new favorite hotels in the world! The service and the accommodations at this reserve were some of the nicest we have ever experienced. My three kids loved the kids club and were thrilled to go on some kid only adventures, chill out and watch a movie, and play pool! This allowed my husband and I to thoroughly enjoy the dinners and wine pairings. The wait staff and sommelier were fantastic. We celebrated our anniversary durning this trip and the staff and Grootbos went above and beyond our expectation. I definitely recommend this reserve and hope to return in the future!

Grootbos is exceptional in every way. This is the best accommodation we have ever booked. From the balcony a breath taking panorama unfolds showcasing majestic mountains, vibrant wild fynbos, white beaches and glistening sea punctuated by whales breaching, it was stunning. Everything was perfect, fantastic staff, wonderful food, great 4 x 4 flower drives, whale watching. Delve into the heart of nature at Grootbos will not be disappointed.

Grootbos staff has a total disrespect for the residents of neigbouring town , De Kelders. I have never seen one of their busses adhere to any traffic sign. Stop signs gets ignored 100% of the time. Once when one of there drivers were confronted about skipping a stop sign, he react with extreme aggression towards me in front of a witness. They park in the middle of the road. Just total disrespect for the local residents. Maybe more training and less attitude may help.

What a fabulous place! Overlooking the beautiful South African coast was amazing! The lodging was luxurious and exceptional. The entire staff attentive and friendly (Caroline and Bianca served us several times and were always pleasant) – we felt very welcomed. We had delicious meals – complements to the chefs! Special thanks to Lisa, our Nature Guide. She took us on a 4x4 Nature Drive and Coastal Excursion – she was so very knowledgeable in describing the various plants and environs. We are so glad we opted to do these activities.
