We spent five nights here in October and were lucky to only have one wet day. The location is wonderful, overlooking Grasmere and opposite Dove Cottage and the Wordsworth Museum. There is a bus stop close by the and the 555 & 559 are regular on the route, taking you down to Windermere or up to Keswick if you want to leave the car behind. Grasmere is a 10 minute walk away. We were in a club room which had a view over the side of the hotel (car park & hills beyond). It also had double opening doors. When you were lying in bed you couldn't see the car park - just the hills! We found the staff all very friendly, helpful and professional and were impressed with how breakfast and dinner were managed to ensure that you had prompt service and it wasn't over crowded. The restaurant team were great and we enjoyed the food. A good hot and cold buffet in the morning plus the option to order some dishes from the kitchen. We ate in the hotel on several nights and enjoyed the food, although the menu is fairly limited. On the first night there wasn't space in the restaurant so we ate in the Lounge but it wasn't a comfortable experience eating a meal from a coffee table when sat on a sofa. It's the same menu in both locations but not the same experience! The room was comfortable and the bathroom spacious with walk in shower and bath. We found the beds a bit hard but reception arranged for housekeeping to put a duvet under the bottom sheet to give a bit more padding, which worked okay. We had a couple of issues in the room, including the heating not working right but these were sorted out very quickly and they gave us a heater in the room in case we had any more problems with the heating (which we didn't). Things go wrong but it is how they are dealt with that is important and they certainly ensured they were all dealt with and very quickly. They did offer for us to move rooms but we were happy to stay where we were and impressed with their response. Moses the Reception Manager was so helpful in suggesting places to visit in the area, even being kind enough to put a route into our phone for us (and it was a great road trip!). We found all the Reception staff really kind and helpful. Having been to many establishments where their shortage of staff was evident, it was good to see that the Daffodil had sufficient staff to ensure good service and all appearing to be well trained and professional. It's easy to be picky about certain factors but what is important is the overall enjoyment of your stay and we enjoyed ours. I'd recommend the walk round Grasmere (although first bit is on main road) as it was a lovely walk that takes you all around the lake and into the village, where you can stop for tea. I'd happily return here. Thanks to all the staff for a great experience.
