Our stay here started out rather badly as we arrived at the front desk around 6 pm, and it was deserted. We waited quite a long time, looking around the area, but no sign of any staff. We tried calling the hotel phone number - the phone at the desk rang and rang, no one came or answered, and eventually it just hung up, and did not even go to voicemail. Finally someone turned up (we think they were on their smoke break), and we checked in. Despite paying over $240 per night for the room, we were also slugged $10 per day for parking. I don't mind paying for parking at an inner city hotel, where parking is at a premium and expensive, but it is offensive to have to pay for parking at regional hotels with large open-air parking lots with plenty of space. It has become just a hidden way of increasing the room rate - hotels are nearly as bad as airlines with hidden charges these days. The whole hotel has a rather run-down and worn look about it - chipped paint, and stained and dirty carpets. There is also only one elevator for a fairly large hotel, meaning often a long wait for it. Our room also did not look all that clean, and the disposal in the kitchen sink was seized up and blocked, such that the dirty water from the dishwasher nearly overflowed the sink. To cap it all off, the room carpet must have been infested by fleas or mites, as the next day, my ankles and feet were covered with insect bites. It is bad enough that hotels let people keep pets in the rooms, but the least they could do is to ensure the rooms are not infested by vermin. Time was when one could rely on Marriott hotels to have a consistently high standard of cleanliness, courtesy, and value for money. We were very disappointed in this one, and suggest you look elsewhere to stay in Grand Junction!
